Question Question About Moving TV Shows to Video Folder

I have a TV series I want to archive and move over to my video folder with other TV shows (mainly DVD rips) to free up space on my SageTV recording drive. I need to start making space for the 552 episodes of the Simpsons that will be airing soon.

If I move over this TV show, which is still airing episodes, will SageTV still consider those episodes as recorded regardless of watch status? I don't want to move the files and then discover that SageTV re-recorded all the episodes I had moved.

As long as SageTV can see the Video folder (import folder) you are going to move them to then they will still show up in Sage just will show archived. If you move the recordings to a non Sage Import folder and the status is not watched then Sage will record them again.

So right now I have moved the files over to my import folder - I didn't remove the videos first from Sage and do a scan, I just moved them over and then an import scan. So the videos still show up under the Recorded TV section and they are archived (like you said would happen). However, I would like the TV shows to be in the import section, not the Recorded TV section because this is where I store my archived TV shows.

If I use BMT to mark the recordings as imports so they show up in the imports folder will SageTV still re-record the shows?

Sagetv will record them again if they are not watched. If they are watched it will not record them again.

Okay; thanks for the information.

So just to verify, if I leave them as they are now; imported videos which show up under Recordings as archived (and have a favorite icon) they won't re-record if they are unwatched. However if I move them into the videos folders and make them true imports then Sage will re-record unless they are marked as watched.

Probably just easier to leave them where they are now. I know this is a little off topic but is there a way to group recordings by season? That is the reason why I wanted the TV show moved to the import folder because I can group via season just by manually organizing the video files into a Season 1, Season 2, etc. folder.

Diamond or Gemstone Plugins will group by seasons.
