Building New SageTv/PlayOn Server: Dedicated Video Card?

My SageTv/Playon server has bit the dust. Don't know if it's the CPU or the motherboard.

I'm moving from:
Motherboard: M4A89GTD-PRO
Chip: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T

TO:
Motherboard: Crosshair V Formula-Z Socket AM3+ 990FX ATX AMD
Chip:AMD FX 8350 4GHz AM3+

The question/problem is this. My existing motherboard had an on-board VGA port /graphics processor. This new board (and other high end boards) don't appear to - I gues most people who buy this kind of configuration use it for gaming and buy a high end video card.

Question: Do SageTv/Playon rely on the Graphics Card/Processor for performance (therefore should I go for a high end video card) or do these programs just rely on CPU - therefore I can get a cheap card for the rare times there is a 'head' to connect for video. Most of the time this machine will sit the basement - headless.

Thanks in advance!

Most motherboards will not boot without a video device installed. You can configure some of them to boot without a video device by setting the "halt on" command to never. Not all of them will work though.
