Strange: Do I have a timer set in Sage somewhere that I don't know about?
I can't figure out what's going on here but I know you guys are probably a lot smarter than I am so maybe you can help. Lately I've been noticing that on some recordings using my HD-PVR and Dish box the Dish OSD will pop-up for no apparent reason with 2 minutes remaining on a show. Kind of strange and not a huge issue except that lately it's been happening right at the end of really dramatic shows during the climax and it pulls you out of the action. So now it's bugging me and I want to figure it out.
I have two HD-PVRs (one is a HD-PVR-2) each connected to an identical Dish VIP211k box. Both of them only have one timer set on the Dish box (to autotune a channel after the nightly Dish update), but this has happened even before those timers were set. Basically, at various times during the day one of the two Dish boxes will pop-up the OSD at exactly X:58. Nothing is happening with the remote, but it's as if the Select button or Info button or something is hit, and the date/time/name of the show box pops up on the top of the screen. It goes away on its own after 2-3 seconds. Only one of the boxes does this, and I've confirmed that it happens consistently at 3:58a and 6:58a, though I know it happens at other times as well that I just haven't nailed down yet. There are no timers set on the Dish box at either of those times that I can find. Other than just having a Dish box that is possessed, my other thought was maybe Sage is somehow sending a remote signal at those times, but I have no idea where in Sage something like this would even be set if it even exists. I know that's a lot of words and not a lot to go off of but does anyone have any suggestions on how I could debug this? So far my first idea is to take the HD-PVR/blaster out of the equation and see if it still does it, but I don't really feel like being up at 3:58a or 6:58a to test that... Appreciate any ideas! |

I realized I could go back and scan through previous recordings that had been made using that Dish/HD-PVR combination and it appears that it's actually happening like clockwork every three hours around the clock. 12:58a, 3:58a, 6:58a, 9:58a, 12:58p, 3:58p, 6:58p, 9:58p. Again, only on the one box, and I can't find any timers or anything else that would seem to cause it. So strange...

Sounds you installed the STB Keep Alive plugin or something similar? Probably sending an OK button signal to your STB every 3 hours. Most likely something like that if it's not actually changing the channel.

You, my friend, are a genius. I had indeed setup STBKeepAlive some time ago when I had Dish before and completely forgot about it when I switched providers. Now that I'm back on dish it's doing its thing again but I didn't remember there even was such a utility because I haven't touched it in so long. Many thanks!
