HD300 Audio decoder - level settings

Some programs that are recorded by my HD-PVR have audio tracks identified as "Digital 384Kbps@48kHz 5.1".
Other shows record with audio identified as "Digital 384Kbps@48kHz Stereo"

The HD-300 is connected via the digital output optical output to my receiver.

When I play the shows coded as Stereo, they play back at a level about 12dB louder than shows using 5.1.

Is there any setting in the HD-300 to compensate levels between the two different types of coding so we are not blasted when playing a show coded in Stereo?

I have been through the menus, and didn't see anything appropriate. When running the SageTV client on the computer, the Detailed Setup has a subsection of "Video / Audio"settings. It contains the audio settings. That group is not offered in Detailed Setup from the HD-300.

The HD300 does not have a setting to compensate for this (that I'm aware of). But your receiver might. I believe most receivers have some type of sound compression or normalization to even things out. Almost all TVs have a feature like this built in these days.
