Audio Primer/Audio Renderer & Decoder settings?

Hello,

I periodically have sound issues which seem like they get resolved if I "play" with the Audio settings in the detailed setup.

Is there some place (or some rule of thumb) that can make this work better? How do renderers and Audio Decoders work together?

I've got an Intel MOBO with the SoundMax driver and S/PDIF out. I've got the Haupauge and the Sonic decoders.

Do I want the wave out? Or direct sound? WHich is better? WHy? Where can I find more info about this?

Many thanks!

rwc

I cannot remmeber where I found this
but when using spdif output
you should use default wave out
when using analogue output like 2 speaker, 5.1, etc
you should use a directsound render cause thats what they were made for
to improve the sound quality for analogue output
also when you use default wave out
you are not using directx to render the audio so the CPU usage is less
