Why does my projector not like sage extenders via hdmi?

I have a Panasonic Ax1000-u, HD100, and HD300

PJ gets moved between the basement theater and the porch. In the basement, it is connected to an Onkyo receiver that has HDMI out, and the extender is connected to the receiver (.ie, no direct connection between the ext. and PJ). It never misses a beat when being disconnected/reconnected.

The porch is a different story. Extender is direct connected via HDMI to the PJ. About a third of the time, the PJ won't see it, requiring multiple restarts of both the PJ and the extender. Cycling inputs doesn't help, and I have tried different hdmi cables. I have also confirmed this behavior with multiple extenders.

What else can I look into?

That's a possibility, never thought of it before. I have gotten the same results with a 15ft add well as the 40 footer, which is what I need for the porch. The basement runs of of a 25 Foret, does the onkyo act as an amplifier of sorts for am hdmi signal?

I just did a quick search of the forum and didn't see the post I recalled.

I think I recall that the signal strength on the HD300 isn't great and to watch your cable length. As you said you may be getting around this with the AVR providing it's own stronger output in the other room. I only use 3ft and 6ft cables on my two.

To test this, try a shorter HDMI cable (6ft or something) directly to the PJ and see what happens.

I am currently writing an article on HDMI connection issues that mainly effect HTPC's, however some of those issues may help with what problems you are having with the extenders. Here is something that is key regardless of equipment. Here is a little piece of that article, I'm not sure if it will help.[LIST]
-- Don’t use the cables that come with the CE kit you just bought. High quality cables are cheap and easy to get from a number of resources. If you have poor cables you will see snow or have signal drop outs. It’s also possible that you’ll get no picture.

Also keeping the cables as short as possible helps prevent signal loss.

Yeah, IIRC the HD300's HDMI out isn't the best, so I'd try a short-ish cable and see if it's better. You could try swapping the extenders too and see fi that makes a difference.

But not too short, both Anthem and Lumagen recommend using cables no shorter than 6ft, and have reportedly had many problems with shorter cables.

I had an issue with the HD300 connecting to my projector (HD100 fine), during my chat back then with support they mentioned:

Quote:
The HD300 does have a different HDMI transmitter chip in it (it's actually
integrated into the SoC, whereas the HD100/200 had an extra chip that was
the actual HDMI transmitter)
So, suspect HD300 is not as powerful at transmitting a signal.

This is occurring with both an hd100 and a 300. Going to invest in an hdmi switching receiver for the garage and see if that helps

There are HDMI splitters for cheap on monoprice, and they would likely boost up your signal plenty to get over the longer cable. Not that you can't go the receiver route, but that's a lot more expensive. In fact, one of them (1X2 Mini HDMI® Splitter w/ 3D support) can likely be powered by the 5V on the USB port of the HD300, if you are comfortable hacking up some USB and power cables, to save a power plug.

I have my HD300 attached to a 60 Foot HDMI cable with Redmere and that works great you might want to look into them they also have much shorter cables with Redmere at Monoprice
