Why won't my HD300/200s talk directly to my projector over HDMI?

In the basement theater I have a Panasonic PT-Ax100u Projector, an Onkyo TX-SR607, and an HD200. All sources run to the onkyo, which is connected via hdmi to the projector. All is well in the basement.

Occasionally I take the HD300 and PJ to the garage for outside movie/sports night, but I get no output over HDMI, only component. There is no receiver involved, just a straight connection from hd200. I have the same issue with an HD300, and have tried multiple cables. Obviously there is something that the projector likes about what the receiver spits out from a sage extender as opposed to what the extender spits out when directly connected to the pj.

If I can solve this, it will be much easier to set up, less cables laying around the garage, etc. Any ideas?

I had similar issues with my DLP TV hooked to the HD200 or 300. I had to use a composite connection running parallel to the TV so I could set the HDMI output resolution to one the TV recognized and then remove the composite connection.

That was for an extender with default settings. Once I got the right resolution, I was good to go from then on. I have an older DLP Samsung TV.

Got it to work once with a new cable, but then right back to silliness. It's like the PJ doesn't see anything unless it's coming from the receiver, and cycling thru the resolutions doesn't make a difference. I have a little lcd tv connected to the composite out, so I know the hd200 is cycling through, but the PJ never picks it up

Have you tried going into the HD300 advanced setup -> multimedia -> and "force HDMI Display Mode" to yes?

Pretty sure the root of the problem is that Panasonic makes crap. They were baffled as well when I called about the PJ, which they have already had back once for ghosting. $130 for diagnostics + whatever replacement parts are + shipping.

While I was trying to solve this, I was using my panasonic blu ray as an alternate source to rule out things. It decided it no longer likes hdmi either and began displaying an error message, so now we no longer have a bluray. Panny tech support suggested that I get an official panasonic hdmi cable (although the one it has been set up on has been fine for almost a year). They gave me a tkt number and an address to ship it to, happens to be the same address I shipped a panny camera, shaver, and the projector to over the last few years for repairs.

Not a good day!

I'll try the "force hdmi" thing, but I have no faith that it matters.
