Anyone heard of a PVR killing USB ports?

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a PVR burning out USB ports? I had my mother board go bad so I plugged it all in to a hub on a new motherboard and now the hub is dead. I assume it is one of the PVR's but I have three so It isn't clear which one is killing stuff!

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks,

Neil

That shouldn't happen, but there are a few things that could do this. Power from the device more that 5V feeding back (my guess), a hot ground (very uncommon these days), a short somewhere, but I think a USB port has protection from the last, unless the MB designers cheated.

BTW, if something goes wrong when connecting a USB device, windows will never let that device connect again, without clearing the USB device from the registry. I used a program called USBDeview to clear that when it happened to me. (I cleared ALL devices, which seemed to help all USB device usage! Drivers will have to reload when you do this, so be careful! (No USB keyboard until reload!))

I couldn't even get a PCI-e usb card to work! I could only get a usb 3.0 port to work sporadically if I was lucky.

This is very strange and clearly destroyed the motherboard (which I thought just bit the dust) but now the PVR's worked fine when I removed them from the hub and put them directly in the new motherboard.
