Audio no longer heard when FF used

Occasionally, maybe 3-4 times during a 2 hour show, when coming out of commercials (i.e. after having pressed ff_skip about 4-5 times), the video continues but the audio is no longer present. If I skip backwards once (which I have set for 5s), it comes right back... just wondering if you've heard of this before.

It is a very minor bug, but thought you should know.

BTW, I am still on 1.3.8 release...using Asus A78NX-Dlx sound and Radeon 9200 video output through DVI.

Used to happen to me too....but I found the cause eventually......go to Detailed Setup->Audio. Select the "MPEG Audio Decoder" for your audio decoder instead of the "Intervideo NonCSS Audio Decoder for Hauppauge".

That should do it.

I changed audio decoders last night in effort to eliminate the problem. It seemed to work, however I now notice that I am dropping frames in video but the audio continues, leading to out of sync audio. If I skip back or fwd it regains sync but falls out a few seconds later. I was using the Elecard Dscaler (double refresh rate, and two frame) but noticed that if I change to the Cyberlink Decoder, this problem goes away.

Then I checked my cpu usage and it is at constant 100%, even when I put Sage to sleep... Something is definitely wrong.

This happened to me before but I don't recall what I did to fix it. Please help. I think that changing the audio had nothing to do with this and it was just coincidence that I noticed the problem then...

I'm thinking that codec(s) are to blame for the AV sync issue I've been experiencing (see my other post on AV sync off by 325ms).

I think some tips on which codec versions work well with which cards / OS would be useful. I have everything codec- and MPEG-wise set to default. I have no idea which ones might be better, and I just don't have enough trial time left to try them all, since the AV sync problem doeasn't always happen immediately, it may take minutes or hours to appear.

This is really too bad, since other than the sync problem this SageTV is a great program. It would be worth $60 if it, well, worked properly. I've spent more than $60 worth of my time trying to get reliable av sync, to no avail. And with 2 trial days left (3?), I'm pretty close to giving up.

To mangriotis:
I know you're a long term member and have even helped me out before but did you try all the obvious things. Like rebooting, replacing your wiz.bin with your wiz.bak, also Jeff mentioned that the Wiz file is checked when you force an EPG update(use channel setup). I'm sorry that most of my ideas center around the Wiz file it's just that the last time this happened to me it didn't stop until I deleted both my wiz files. I lost all my preference, intelligent recording info, favorites, etc. Since then I've made a point of backing up my Wiz file just in case. Best of luck. I hope you get it worked out.

to randyest:
I think most of your AV sync problems are related to your DVCR card. I've seen many posts by people who found that some obscure hardware config was causing problems with the DVCR. Alot of them switched to the PVR250/350 and now have no problems. Many of the people at this site use the PVR250/350. I've read your other thread and realize that this seems to be a Sage specific issue for you since the Creative software seems to work fine. But I've read many posts on other forums of similar problems using the Creative software. In the end it's unfortunate that Creative decided not to put their weight behind the DVCR and stick with their customers. It leaves many people like you with a card that they can do little with. I'm sorry that SageTV can't seem to work out on your system. SageTV really is a great program also Jeff and this forum are the best when it comes to support.

Mango, uncheck "Double Refresh Rate" for the DScaler filter. That'll cause sync loss if you don't have enough horsepower.

randyest, My honest recommendation is to stay away from the DVCR card. If you've got a good configuration, you should be able to get the DVCR card to work without sync loss; but personally I'd never build a system with one of those cards in it again. Creative stopped making them for a reason.

You will have no sync problems whatsoever if you use a PVR250/350.

That's not it. I have an Athlon 2100 XP and have been running double refresh rate since the beginning...

Something in the Wiz.bin file was screwed up but is now fixed...

Mango, did the supposed Wiz corruption occur before or after you upgraded to Beta 1.4.5?

1.4.5 has some changes in it that should resolve the Wiz corruption problems.

The upgrade from 1.3.8 to 1.4.5 cured the issue. The Wiz corruption occurred a few days ago and just happened to coincide with me switching the audio decoder...

Thanks.

Hi all,

I have moved the continuation of the DVCR thread to what seems like a more appropriate topic here.
