Blank Home Screen

Hey guys just updated Gemstone to the latest version and restarted sagetv and now my home screen is blank. There are no menu options shown. I can press the options button on my remote and get the menu settings stuff but I can't find where something might be wrong. Any thoughts?

I've noticed an occasional issue if gemstone loads up but can't access the server. Haven't narrowed down the cause yet to find a fix. I'm thinking something in the menu system is incorrectly using a server resource instead of client.

Are you using the default menu file location which is by client or are you using a central menu file on a shared drive?

I will also look over the code and see what we are possibly checking on the server during the menu startup.

I, personally, have never changed the menu location on my clients - just built the menu from scratch after installing gemstone - so wherever the default is - but I have seen the missing menu screen occasionally, but like I said, could never identify what/when the problem occurred - possibly something that happened if the server was restarted while the client was asleep, and upon waking, the client has no menus.

This has been reported many times before. If the Client starts before the server there is no menu until you restart the client.

I have this problem again on my hd300. I have restarted it the only thing I haven't done is pull the plug. I did get it to go to the guide for a second but the main menu is blank. I have clearly connected after the server has started.

Any help here? Can someone tell me how to revert to the original UI? I think I have to delete something on the server but don't know what?

reverting is relatively simple, you need to edit the client.properties file for that particular client (for the extender, it will be in the SageTV/clients folder, named with the MAC address of the extender). Change the STV= line to point to SageTV7.xml instead of Gemstone.xml.

Well I reverted back. At one point I reverted back to stock and then selected gemstone and it was still blank. So I went back to the standard ui and it works on my box. Any reason why gemstone would stop all the sudden?

You could try deleting or renaming the client properties file from the clients folder while the extender is unpluged and try that. Other posibilty is it can not find the menu defaults file...has the server install changed perhaps?

Hi,

I have not touched my SageTV installation in over a year and just started having this problem. My HD-300 client has no menu. I am able to revert back to the Standard UI and see the menu, but if I try to reenable the Gemstone UI, I get the no menu problem again.

Any advice on how to trouble-shoot? There was a Gemstone update available that I installed, but it did not help.

I'm still running the Oem ui as I can't get gemstone to work. Something changed for some reason and its busted. Looks like little support exists anymore to get this resolved.

Are you guys running ADM or any other plugins with Gemstone? Just guessing as I have never had this happen to me when testing.

I am thinking that since ADM is built into Gemstone that there may be a conflict if it is running together... total guess for now but I'll try to help.

@Heffneil - Did you try jusjoken's idea to delete the extender properties file on the server?

Jorton, I have seen these symptoms occasionally on my system, but that was on clients that started up without the server available. I dont' have an extender running right now, so no idea if it would happen there (I doubt it, as the server would have to be available for the UI to even load on an extender). In my cases, reloading the UI is enough to bring it back.

Look my problem is NOT with the server not being available. If explained that and you keep suggesting this and muddying the water with a different problem.

I am not running adm. Not even sure what adm is.

I would recommend recreating the issue and then posting the logs so we can see what might be causing the issue. If the client on the server works then go into it and enable debug logging and then post all the logs from the logs folder and the sage server logs and we will see what we can do.
