HDHomerun HDHR3-US (non-cable card) hardware issue?
I purchased an HDHR3-US a few months ago to compliment an original HDHR model that I've been using for years. I was amazed at how much better the signal was on the new HDHR tuners compared to the old HDHR tuner - using timed recording, all 4 tuners on the same channel simultaneously, and then running the HDHR config app to monitor the signal strengths. Although they are both running the same firmware version, I wonder if the new HDHR's have been 'adjusted' to show a 100% signal when the older models may have showed only 85%.
I didn't put this together at first, but a few weeks ago I added a power strip to my cabinet, beside the new HDHR. I then started to get some strange artifacts in my TV shows. After verifying poor signal, I spent an hour or two playing around with the cabling and such, and right at the last moment, with the meter up on the screen, I moved the HDHR 8" from it's original spot, straightening the 1.5 foot quad shielded coax cable - the meter instantly went to 100% and recordings have been perfect since. Can anyone shed some light on what's going on here? |

I'm guessing electrical interference from your power strip since you moved your HDHomerun (which also means you moved your coax) away from the strip and the signal improved.

I had already removed the power strip when I noticed the signal change so drastically. I'm even wondering about the cable simply stressing the HDHR unit a little bit and causing that ... I don't know, but it's downright strange.

Not many folks use these QAM tuners any more it seems, but as a followup to the original issue, I found a post over at the SiliconDust forums that suggested issues with regard to proximity of the HDHR tuners to wireless routers.
I pulled both HDHR's (new and old) out of my cabinet and separated them from the wireless router and sure enough, solid, strong signals once again. |

The Hd Homeruns non cable card can also be used for OTA not just QAM the CC tuners cannot be used for OTA.
