Samsung Blueray players... SageTV client!
So I bought a Samsung Blueray player for my basement, and while I was setting it up I saw the AllShare icon and read the manual. On a whim, I installed AllShare on my SageTV machine and shared the recording folder. I wasn't optimistic for a number of reasons: first, the Sage files recorded with the HDVPVR are all TS streams now and very few things seem to like them, and when I did the setup for the shared folder, it literally took 6 hours (overnight) to actually index the 164 recordings I had. Once it was done, much to my astonishment the blueray player streamed and played all the recordings is awesome quality. I did had a problem with my wireless keeping up because I have two other people using the wireless, so I ran an ethernet cable and it worked flawlessly. So I have to say as long as you are patient with the setup, it works awesome for displaying sage content. I have yet to try it, but I suspect because the file is a TS stream, I can probably start playing the temp file for the live recording and watch almost live TV as well.

Can you skip through the files as well?

what does the GUI look like? Is it a big long list of 164 shows? Any way to order them at all (ie, newest first)

Keep in mind, this is a very rough proof-of-concept app that is on the forum, just to see what streaming programs support the symlinks properly, not really for real world use. A few years ago when I made this, there weren't many streaming servers that handled it well (Orb, at the time, is what I settled on). Now days, though, that is likely pretty different.

Isnt all-share just a dlna server with a better ui and easier connectivity with samsung moble devices much like apples airplay?
My panny tv has no problems playing ts, vob files through dlna without the need for orb etc as windows 7 has a built in dlna server in windows...though the ui is typical plain jane. |

Skipping seems to work fine. The UI is passable and shows come up as a big list when you browse to the folder. From the client end everything seems to be flawless. The server setup is a little sketchy, to be honest. The server software seems buggy when you first set it up, and selecting the folder to share took a few combinations of selecting, then rebooting, which was weird. It also seems to be doing something along the lines of scanning EVERY video as it adds it to its catalog, so the first time it correctly added the shared folder containing 400 some odd shows, it took 6 hours to properly scan and catalog. Since the initial setup the only annoyance I've had is that when something with a DLHA client come on-line to my wireless or regular network, the server pops up a notification. There may be a way to kill that bit I haven't looked. From the client end it just works with no issues whatsoever. Plays the TS files no problem. Someone else mentioned to me that the delay in cataloging could be because the TS files are not the same as container files like mkv or avi, the server might have problems parsing the video to make a thumbnail. I can say that adding avi or music files seems to go pretty quickly, and it has been adding the recorded files in the background with no fuss.

JW have you tried the plex app on your samsung bluray player? I don't have any samsung devices, but was curious as to how well it worked.
