Video Card/HDMI and wake from sleep

I have had a Sage setup running for around 4 years problem free. The box is Windows Vista, and running Sage 6.6. After 3 min of idle, the box goes into the hybrid sleep state. And then would wake up reliably every time when the button on the remote was hit. The box was running an old ATI card with a breakout cable to component video.

Recently it began to get flaky - lots of blue screens and restarts. After debugging it, it was clear the video card was the culprit. I purchased a new ATI video card (since the old one is no longer available) with a HDMI connector (I couldnt find one with a component breakout cable). Installing it was a relatively painless experience. The issue is with sleep/wakeup.

It appears that everytime the computer wakes, it wants to "talk" to my TV and figure out the desired resolution, etc. I want the resolution to be just 720p (most of the OTA programming in my area is at 720p) but it keeps going back to 1080i (the max resolution the TV can support).

As well, the handshake process is not super reliable - sometimes it just locks up requiring the TV to be powered off (the TV is old so it probably has a poor implementation of HDMI).

Does anybody know how to stop this whole handshake process upon every wake? I couldnt find anything in the ATI Catalyst software to enable this - plus I couldnt find anything through google although I doubt I am searching the right terms.

Thanks.

If you don't mind another composite out video card here are a few on Newegg.. Unfortunately I do not have any suggestions for your current card..

Those are only composite out - I need component out (to revert back to the original state). Do you know of any cards that have that?

Thanks.

You're going to have to get a vga-component adapter. Monoprice has them, just make sure your video card supports one. That or find a video card with a break out cable again.

There is a box you can buy that will always report the same "info" over the HDMI port, so the PC always thinks it's hooked up to the same device. I'm using one, but forget the name. I'll try and remember to get the info tonight, when I get home.

That's not what I have, but same function. Thanks for replying, I forgot about this. Looking ....

Here is the link to what I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o02_s01_i00

If you get it, download the instructions from their web site, as the ones in the box are incomplete and incorrect!

It works great once I had the correct instructions. One of the best things is, I can turn the TV/receiver off, and the computer never even knows it isn't hooked up, so windows doesn't do it's weird disconnect thing.
