Question Performance benefits from upgrading Java 6 to 7?

I really dont want to upgrade Java if I dont have to. Did anyone notice any performance/stability benefit for SageTVClient.exe and SageTVService.exe if I upgrade from Java 6 Build27 to Java 7 Build 7? I know there's some optimizations in version 7; but not sure if they would affect SageTV any.

I'm currently using Java Heap size 768.

I upgraded in my clients to V7 still have my server on Java 6 because it is a headless server and I also use it for storage of files drivers etc...

The reason I upgraded to V7 is that I also use my clients to browse play games etc... and some games and sites I frequent required version 7. Eventually the way I see V7 will be a requirement if you use your clients for other than watching Sagetv.

Correct me if I am wrong - the java exploit issues only impact the web plugin and not the JVM. So running 7.7 on a headless server shouldn't cause problems unless you surf the web on the box.

If I worried about every exploit warning concerning IE, chrome, Java, Flash, etc... I would have never unpacked my PC.

Yeah, the security issue for Java 7 was definitely not the reason why I stuck with version 6; since either way, I don't execute questionable executables/scripts of unknown origin on any of my machines. Even if the security exploit effected the browser plugin; I still have the below measures to protect my machine; which has worked very effectively in the past.

1. Keep Windows patched
2. Keep virus definitions patched (I use NOD32 Antivirus)
3. Keep Adblock Plus for Firefox updated

The only time I can see someone having a problem; even with the above in place would be if someone deliberately downloads a very questionable executable of unknown origin to "Crack" a legitimate application and executes it himself with full OS permissions.
