The old mediamvp works woth version 7. But you need to downgrade the ui to the v3 sagemc to get any performane out of the mvp. I run three this way.

Which newer MediaMVP you're talking about? I'm not aware of any new MediaMVP unless you're referring to the model with or without the S/PDIF or the HD version which unfortunately is not supported by SageTV.

I was looking at the model 1340. I know I could use the built in software to play my music and movies, but could I play the recorded sage 7 tv recordings? I figure comskip wouldn't work and the UI would be the mvp software ui unless I went with the old mediamvp which is composite output and stereo audio out.

The MediaMVP can only play MPEG2 videos anything else must be transcoded. SageTV can generate two type of recordings file, TS and MPG and can be configured to do so. I suspect that the MediaMVP with its own server application will only support MPG, but not 100% sure.

In EU we have only one model available (with or without wireless support) which has a SCART interface and a separate coaxial S/PDIF output

I just installed the SageMC 16-9 full installer and tried switching to the sagemc STV.. I get a screen full of garbage now when I boot up the mvp.. is there a trick to installing SageMC on Sagetv v. 7?

You need sagemc _6_3_9b_24.xml loaded. It is the last sagemc before it became a plugin. See attached the one I used.
