Sending remote press to Set top Box

Hello friends,

I have a subscription based set top internet tv box. It streams shows using the internet. However every few hours it looses connection to servers and goes to default screen.

The solution is to press the 'enter key' of the remote to go to the channel it was showing before loosing connection to internet.

If I could device a way to press the 'enter' button on the remote every 10 minutes (for example) ,I can record form the set top box and if it looses the internet connection, it will go back to the channel in 10 minutes by pressing the enter button.

So, is there any way to program a general purpose IR blaster to send a 'enter' code every few minutes from the PC ? Can you suggest a way ?

Have you checked to see if there is a way to disable that behavior in a setup screen for your STB? I know most of the cable STBs have setup screens that you can get to via certain keypress combinations, maybe your internet STB has something similar...

If you have a USB IR blaster, EventGhost can probably do it (http://www.eventghost.org).
It can be a bit scary to configure, but if you have specific questions I can probably help.
I think what you'd need to do is learn the IR code, make a macro that sends it out, and another macro that calls the sending macro and auto-repeats itself every ten minutes.

Eventghost seems an interesting option. I am going to try it with my Dell USB IR receiver(looks identical to microsoft ir receiver. thanks
