Will this work for a client?

Saw this on newegg and even comes with a remote. Is it powerful enough to handle things? |

Depends on the type of media you want to watch - the CPU isn't very high powered (Single Core 1.8 Ghz that supports HyperThreading).
This is the type of CPU that were used in Netbooks, which were generally only considered good enough for Web Browsing, Email, and Office Apps - so I don't think this will be very good for any HD content. http://ark.intel.com/products/49489/...Cache-1_80-GHz) http://laptoping.com/intel-atom-benchmark.html Edit: forgot to comment on the video card. It is using Intel GMA 3150, which is a 3D chipset, but it is generally not considered to be good for HD content either. Though, there appears to be a modding culture out there for this chipset that has some varying degree of success with 720p playback: http://9xxssf.info/topic/360-sherry-...-3150-is-here/ Conclusion: Should be just fine for SD content (480i/p TV and DVD), 720p is doubtful and 1080i/p likely not possible ever. The nVidia ION video platform is rated for 1080p playback (http://www.nvidia.com/object/sff_ion.html). Your link has the ION2 platform which has even better support for 1080p content than the first-gen ION.
Do note that your link is a barebones system; you'll need to add RAM and disk storage and the storage options aren't the greatest (SD and eSATA). There are some other Nettop's out there with the D525/ION2 combo, so you might look at some of the other options on the nVidia site I linked to. Another option, D525/ION2 with 2GB RAM, DVDRW, HDD and Win7 installed: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883220050 FYI, some other client discussions going on here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58613 http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58559 Last edited by KJake; 07-08-2012 at 08:53 PM. |

Look for an AMD fuzion platform. Plays back video better than intel/ion series. The Ion platform hasn't been updated in a while, and intel's built in graphics aren't good enough for smooth playback.
