Gemstone UI Addon and Theme

Just wanted to give a quick update on the status of Diamond.

Since the fall of 2011 there has been a lot of work done on Diamond. So much work in fact on the back end and the structure of the Flows that it has been renamed to "Gemstone". We are now using the VFS from Phoenix for the base of our "Flows". This means that most of the Flows types (360, List, Cover, Stage, Wall, Simplified, Sage, Sidways and more) can be used with TV and Movie content. Basic grouping/sorting/filtering can all be done from the UI and more complicated can be created via xml file modifications.

Image caching on HD200/HD300's in the Flows and existing TV Views have been rewritten and from what we are seeing things have really improved.

We are getting to the picky part now and fixing up bugs and getting options working and hope to have a package out for testing very soon.

Current Gemstone team consists of jusjoken, jorton and evilpenguin. With lots of thanks to the many people that provide help along the way.

More to come

Good selection of movies - as a Wayner it is good to see that Wayne's World and Wayne's World 2 are part of the movie library.

As a Canadian it is good to see the Canadian networks in your EPG.

But you should really switch to Celsius

It will appear as a version update of Diamond in the plugin list and current users can just update... But it has so many changes and design differences that all your stettings will be new (but there is a new options area to manage settings and an export function as well to keep multiple clients updated).

We will also be creating a new plugin called Diamond Legacy that will be a re-release of Diamond 3.32 for anyone that wants to go back after trying out Gemstone... Can't imagine that but we want to support as many Sage users as possible

Lots more info coming as we get closer to a release.

Looking forward to trying it out

wow looks awesome Can't wait to try it out. Of course since I'm still partial to the TVE layout I imagine I'll have some updating to do.

You said you were working on it still j/k I realize there isn't really an incentive. At least I've got it working.

Were you still planning on releasing tve2? I still use the first one. Best way to navigate TV IMHO. I like that you don't have many clicks to get to where you want to go.

I did some layout updates to tve v1 to make it flow better with diamond (ie inheriting the diamond theme/etc) that haven't been released because in the process of updating it i broke some functionality that wasn't super important to me but is to others ("upcoming recordings" and multiple views, season filtering, some other filtering i believe, refresh after delete, and some other things). Since that functionality was never super important to me I never finished fixing it but it meant that it's not ready for prime time. I've always wanted to finish it (which would mean using phoenix vfs for view generation) but just haven't had time to dedicate to it. So to answer your question... Hopefully one day I'll finish it but who knows when.

Curious about your comment regarding improved performance, are you saying its faster than the current Diamond?

Simple answer is Yes... But your mileage may vary

We will discover better when we get more testers involved but the caching is all new and is certainly quicker on extenders than Diamond. And if all goes well with the various options it "should" even work ok on an HD100.
