Prepending of remote commands

Okay, in my new quest to deal with constantly-turning-off-boxes, i'm going to settle and send my wake-up command to the boxes before every channel change.

That looks easy to do if it's only one button... but how do i send two?

I need to send menu and esc.
Should I combine the codes for both menu and esc into one "button" in my ir text file and send that button thru the regular sage interface options?

or is there a better way?

thanks

Assuming that you can call a batch file you can use the uutx utility to send codes from the USB-UIRT. But using the standard support for the USB-UIRT then I don't think you can do this. If you use one of the third party channel switches that are generally used for firewire channel changing then you might be able to run a batch file before running the normal channel change program.

Another way to do this, assuming that the Menu - Esc sequence does not cause a problem while recording a show would be to run a Scheduled Task every 60 minutes or so that sends these commands via a batch file.

It would be nice to just send the menu-esc right before the channel change each time the channel is to be changed.

I'm going to play around with firewire and with changing the code for menu to be menu+esc this weekend...

hm.

If you haven't seen it already then check out this thread http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51608 . You might also be able to get the author to alter it to allow you to send a prefix with every channel change, assuming that it doesn't work by default.

Looks like that program ensures boxes are on anyway, so prepend wouldn't be necessary! Thanks!
