New to Phoenix - remote commands?
First off - very impressive!
Now a couple of questions: 1. Sorting methods: the default for the views I prefer wanted to always sort by 'Recent Activity' -changing the sort order doesn't appear to be kept, so wife and kid's were complaining they couldn't find their shows. I found the sort specifications and edited them so it sorts by title on recordings and groups by genre (sub-sorted by title) on movies, which is great - but is there a setting to keep the last selected sort order from the GUI? I would expect most people won't want to edit an XML file. (EDIT: Found the setting to retain last. It might be nice to have a 'Snapshot' option if 'View Presentation Customization' is set 'Temporary' to set the current sort order as the default for the current view) 2. Remote Commands: The 'Library' command doesn't work (nor does 'Picture Library - which I don't really care about at this point) but would like to be able to go straight to 'Movies' with a remote button press. Is there a list of mappable commands that do work for Phoenix? The 'Home' button provides the mini-menu first, then the 'Landing Page' - I like the mini-menu but would like to customize it to show the TV and Movie views I prefer (I expect this is probably possible through XML editing but haven't tracked the file down yet). Alternately is it possible to disable the mini-menu and go straight to the 'Landing Page' (especially if I can't change the default behavior of the mini-menu)? (EDIT: Ok - I figured out which XML file to edit to slim this down and found the 'Default View' settings in 'Universal Browser' options. 3. Replication: What do I need to copy to my other clients to maintain a uniform interface without having to set everything up on each one? As a suggestion for future development I've always thought it would be nice if there was an option to store the client configuration in a single location on the server so that UI changes could be global. 4. Other Issues: I think the Pictures and Online menus aren't supported yet (they didn't work on mine - just rolled back to the default UI) We almost never used those anyway so it doesn't matter much for me - just wanted to verify. Like I said - Very Impressive overhaul of the UI. I'm trying to get the UI streamlined to keep the family happy and have managed to do that with Phoenix!

Another question - is there a way to merge artists in the Music Browser? For example 'Beatles' and 'The Beatles'. I realize I could retag them all, but if I could change it globally that would be nice. It would also be nice to have the option to ignore 'The' in lists in video recordings. Maybe I'm just missing how to do that. It ignores them in the Music Browser.

In regards to your second question, I find it easier to always ensure that the "source" information is correct. Then your tags will appear correct in any program you use to access them.
Use Mp3tag (free). Upon opening, ensure that on the left it shows both "artist" and "album artist" tags. If not, you can configure this in the options. Change the directory to the folder that contains "all" of your Beatles albums (local or server). Select all of the songs. On the left, if they all have the same value for the tag, it will display it, otherwise it will display (multiple values). Change the Multiple values field to Beatles, and Save. Problem solved. Which commands in particular are you missing? Movies is the only one you mention up above. Is that the only one?
Currently the following key commands can be customized:
I'll see if I can add Movies to that list in the next release. btl.

It would be nice to assign the standard buttons from an MCE remote to Phoenix menus:
1. LiveTV (live tv) 2. Guide (TV guide) 3. MyMovies (Movie wall) 4. MyVideos (Home Videos) 5. MyMusic (Music) 6. MyPictures (Pictures) 7. Green (Home page) You mention that the custom keys 1-5 can be assigned... how is that done? Thanks in advance. Appreciate all your efforts. |

So Sage doesn't really know about MCE remote buttons per se. There are sage commands that the buttons on the MCE remote map to, and those are what we can add to Phoenix.
I'll see if I can add a more complete list of buttons that can be customized. Currently the KeyMenu.xml file is how you would customize them. Copy it over to the userdata area and then modify it all you want. btl.

Understood - but SageTV ships with default mappings so when you select the MCE as your remote it populated the MCE IR codes to the corresponding SageTV commands. The SageTV commands are mapped to the menus.
What is the equivalent in Phoenix? Not familiar (yet) with the KeyMenu.XML. Can you provide some more info on the features currently supported? I assume by copy to userdata you mean to follow the same technique for modifying menus/views in Phoenix? |

I messed around with the xml file mentioned and assigned 'Custom1' to a button on my remote, but it just brought me to the recordings screen. I was trying to get it to go to the video library. Didn't seem to matter what I changed in the xml file.

Are you running the latest release? I seem to remember fixing something like what you are describing. For me, Music and Recorded TV both work (which are the two that are currently defined in the KeyMenu.xml file).
btl.

Those do both work, but I was trying to modify 'Custom1' to pull up my 'Movies' screen (I use the hybrid view of Imported Movies (DVD's) and Recorded Movies). I tried modifying 'Custom1' using the same settings the 'Music' section had but it still pulled up recordings. You had mentioned copying the xml file to the user section - perhaps I didn't put it in the right place? Can you give the default path of where the keymap.xml file needs to be if I'm going to modify it please?

OK - I did fix it, but not fully. So you aren't doing anything wrong.
