computer specs for placeshifter?

Greetings.
With SageTV having shut down their store, and Sage extenders going for quite a lot of money on eBay, I was considering a computer to be one of my extenders, especially in the event that the extender died. Also, any such computer fast enough to run SageTV placeshifter would also be able to handle Boxee without having to buy their hardware.

I like building computers, but so far have only done kits. Can anyone suggest the specs for a system that would make a good Sage extender using placeshifter? I want it to be able to easily handle HD.

I'm looking for specific specs, such as processor type/speed, memory, motherboard, video and audio cards.

Just keep in mind if you're going the route with Placeshifter you can't stream DVDs to it in native format. (VOB's)
