Question Skystar2 compatibility

Hello,

I've just installed SageTV and everything went really well (seems very smooth and stable compared to most other progs I've tried) except for the correct recognition of my pair of Skystar2's which are installed with BDA drivers, These show correctly named but I'm given the tuning options of DVBC or DVBT only.
Are these cards compatible with SageTV?? If so I would be grateful for any help to get them running. Apologies if this has been asked before but I've searched on and off site for hours and have drawn a blank.

Regards.

The SkyStar 2 were not supported properly at the time I tried using it, please look here for more details about my personal experience. I would thought things changed for good by now.

Consider the Hauppauge NOVA DVB-S2, is very good indeed or the TBS 6984 PCI-E DVB-S2 Quad Tuner TV Card, please look here for information, apparently it does work native on Sage.

Actually, thinking about it, I wonder whether you need to install the same system patch that was required time ago for MCE to allow to use DVB-S cards as MCE was only able to use DVB-T. Unfortunately, I don't know much about it, but thought was worth mentioning.

Good luck

Thanks for taking the time to reply,

Because of other issues I've got with the Skystars I think I'll take your advice and buy a TBS 6984 PCI-E DVB-S2, It makes sense as I'm already running a quad lnb.

Thanks again.

Hi,

did you take my advice in the end? If so can you please let me know how did you get on with the TBS 6984 PCI-E DVB-S2 as I'm really interested to buy two of those very soon...what I'm looking for is channel switch performance, reliability in bad weather conditions (worst summer in the UK since mankind) and build quality.

TA

Been running the card without issues for some time now, completely happy with this card as it works perfectly and really stable ( even during the really bad weather we have been having - Note I have an 80cm dish). DVBdream reports 90%+ signal strength and 80%+ quality on all channels. It really is about getting a dish aligned and a good LNB.
Channel change is really quick ( even quicker than DVB-T channel changes ).

Thank you very much indeed for your valuable feedback...

I have some extra questions if I may ask please...80cm is quite a big dish, is it mesh or solid? Are you using the dish for multi-LNB or prime focus only? Which brand of LNB are you using and its noise level?

Many thanks
Eddy
