sage control via ios or android device
I was looking at the http://thinkflood.com/products/redeye-pro/ and am curious if anyone is controlling sage through a touch pad?
My issues are I have a central rack and am going to buy a home theater. I think this should work. Has anyone tested such a configuration: Epson 8350 HDMI connection to Balun, convert to cat 6, balun at rack, plug hdmi into Receiver Sage HD 300 plug in to Receiver pass through via hdmi I assume I'll have to set some type of audio delay to sync up the video and audio. With this setup though the hd300 will need to be at the rack. If I buy a red eye pro then in theory I can goto an ipad or android device (with some configuration) and manage the hd300 for the projector as well as my surround sound settings I was also looking at the redeye pro to manage a pair of aton dla 6 speaker selectors and a second receiver I will use for an upstairs surround zone A secondary priority is I bought an xbox 360 with kinect for the wife and kids. I'm wondering if using the hdmi2 of the projector to balun, convert to cat 6, balun at rack, hdmi to receiver pass-through, then to balun to use cat 6 back to projector screen area where xbox would be, balun there to plugin hdmi xbox. Any reason why this wouldn't work? Is $250 the going rate for the cat 6 to hdmi baluns? The local av shop recommended a product through their snapav distributor. search amazon for a $60 balun - anyone use this with Sage: Hdmi Extender Adapter Over 1 Single Cat5e /6 (Up to 150 Feet) 1080p Extension Cable I don't have any way to run any cable from the project to the area where the xbox would sit. Didn't think about gaming in my design. Last edited by profit; 12-11-2011 at 11:30 AM. |

I am obviously biased, but for the SageTV part, you could use the T*SaveTV app (or the free remote only version)... Of course there is still the control of everything else, but maybe that gives you more flexibility on selecting the rest...

With baluns, you typically get what you pay for. So yes, I would say $250 is about the going rate for some GOOD QUALITY hdmi baluns.
I will say that unless you buy Crestron, most of the automation systems out there use Component Video to distribute video. It is much cheaper and easier to do than HDMI. I use an automation program called CQC to control my automated house. There are Android and iOS versions available. But I also use Fonceur's programs for just straight SageTV control.

I use HomeSeer in my house, and have adapted the built in Sage web remote commands as calls in my HSTouch applications to control SageTv.
HomeSeer has a "GetUrl" function which I add the web commands to like this one: "http://192.168.2.51:87/sage/SageCommand?RetImage=no&nocache=1234103577546&command=Home&context=xxxxxxxxxxxx" context=xxxxxxxxxxxx, is the MAC address of the client being controled. not sure how off topic this is, but it is good info for someone. I hope. -Skybolt |

daisychain hdmi baluns
I have a pair of snapav binary b-200-1cat-hdir baluns. Does anyone know if you can daisy-chain these to extend the distance or boost the signal?
Also does going through a patch panel degrade the signal in a significant way? Last edited by profit; 12-31-2011 at 12:15 PM. |

Depending on the components, you may very well be able to just use a long HDMI cable. I ran for years over a 40ft HDMI cable with no problems. HDMI is actually surprisingly stable over these kind of runs, and this is a LOT cheaper than the BALUN route.
