HVR-2250 & digital channels signal problem

I've got the analog channels working fine. I've created a digital video source that seems to see the correct digital channels (confirmed using silicondust.com), but when I attempt to tune to those channels "No Signal" appears onscreen. During the channel setup the signal strength bounces between 6% and 100% for each digital channel.

I'm assuming you are trying to tune cable?

If that is correct, then try purchasing a new coax cable. I had a similar issue a few years ago; HD channels would freeze during recordings. After spending months troubleshooting and having the cable company come out I discovered the issue was the poorly cut coax cable that the cable guy created.

I replaced the coax cable with this $2 cable and everything has worked great since.

OTA

Actually the problem is the SageTV only sees the analog portion of the card and not the digital. I've updated the driver. How do I get the digital portion to show up?

I get this with tuners a lot. I've written about this sort of thing in posts but never put it quite the way you do - a fluctuating signal between some really low number and pegged 100%. Totally messes up recordings. All the usuals - new cables, swaps with known goods down the whole food chain from antenna to amp to splitter to cables to cards, you name it, different USB or PCI or PCI Express slots, etc. have been tried. Even tried a laptop with a USB stick off the same signal without the hi/low issue you right about.

The 2250 is the worst. No one has ever suggested a decent workaround or solution. I have had it never happen on a tuner, all of a sudden happen, and maybe or maybe not stop day, weeks, or months later.

I finally asked Sage Tech Support how to rip everything about a tuner card/stick out of the properties file to force Sage to "forget" everything about that card/stick and then reinstall it, but now with Sage slip-sliding away I have not bothered to test it out. Sort of like using a sledgehammer to pound in a finishing nail, but again, you could ask tech support how to do that and see if it works.

My 2250 does the same thing when the signal is too low. Moving my antenna to a better location stopped it from happening. It never happened on any of the other tuners, but it was easy enough to move the antenna.

Yeah, considering my antenna is on a rotor, maybe I should try that. Thing for me is other tuners of the same age or older see that signal as a constant peg, no matter which cable (3) I try off that splitter/amp combo.

One other thing, and maybe this is unique to me, but make sure you don't use those quick-on-off F connectors that don't have threads. My system is on a rack in a server chassis with a ton of fans. I actually once had a non-thread connector vibrate off so it was just hanging on. But if memory serves, it totally killed every channel on the tuner. That cured me of the fast F-connectors, although I know some older cards had recessed fittings that almost demanded the use of them, vs. the 2250 where the threads stick out the back of the card's mounting plate.
