HD200 freezes after about 5 minutes

Hi All,

I've had a few HD200s since they came out and I'm having trouble with one of them and I'm not sure what to try first....

After turning it on, I could be doing nothing (let it connect SageTV server and sit @ menu) or try to play back a show/live TV. After abotu 5 minutes of use, the screen goes black, the red light and green light stay on. If I press the power button on the remote, it only affects the red light, nothing else. I have to unplug and plug in the device to repeat this over and over. I've used this HD200 for about 3 yrs now and no problems.

Is it just dead? I am just not sure what to try first, but honestly the only things coming to mind are to open it up and check the heatsinks (make sure they are attached well) and reflashing the firmware (will have to look up how to do this manually).

Any other ideas?

-Brian

Sounds like it could be an IP address conflict issue. But I believe nn IP conflict causes a problem after about 10 minute instead of 5. Have you timed it? Have you made any IP changes to your network? Are you using static or Dynamic IP on the HD200?

I use DHCP with MAC address reservations, so I doubt it's that. Also< I haven't changed the network setup in 2+ years.

Blow away the client.properties file for that extender and let it recreate new. If that doesn't solve it also try swapping the HD200s to see if the problem follows you. It may be the network cable. Also test swapping the power supplies between the two.

I'll blow away the client file tonight. I've moved the box itself, so it's not the power supply or network cable.

Ok, so I tried reflashing from a USB stick with no luck. I looked for a client.properties file and could find one in the SageTV/SageTV directory. I only foudn one Sage.client.properties file. I thought there was suppsoed to be one for each extender that included the MAC address in the file name. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Look in the Clients folder. Look for the MAC address of the extender with a .properties extension to it. Remove it and the backup file also.

Just to recap, I've tried new power supply, new network run, flashing the firmware, and deleting the client.properties file.

Would it make any sense to do a "factory reset", or does the firmware flash accomplish the same thing? I'm running out of ideas and hate the idea of throwing this thing in the trash.

I'm out of ideas folks.....I did the factory reset and no love.....

I did pick up some new information. It turns out that the video stop, then audio, but the network light keeps flashing until either a) the show is over or b) I hit stop or power off.

Any other ideas? It seems like traversing the menu system works great in extender and theater modes, but displaying video causes the problems.

Do you still have this?

Try using the yellow component cable for video, and tell me if the screen turns green when this happens?

The yellow cable is for "composite" video.

The component cables for video are:
GREEN
RED
BLUE
