Episode Thumbnail Caching

Diamond is caching the incorrect (and same) thumbnail for episodes.
For example in the Covert Affairs fanart directory (..\Fanart\TV\Covert Affairs\Season 2\Episodes) there are 3 files:
  • 0007.jpg
  • 0009.jpg
  • 0012.jpg.
Each file is in fact different, I checked. After clearing the Diamond Cache and letting it run through a re-cache there are 2 files in the Diamond Cache directory (cache\DiamondImages\TV\thumb_episodes\Covert Affairs):
  • The Wake-Up Bomb-02x11.jpg
  • Uberlin-02x12.jpg
which match the 2 episodes currently on the server. Both images in the cache diretory are caches of 0007.jpg so episodes 11 and 12 are both showing the thumbnail for episode 7.

The same thing is occurring for every show. For a show with 102 episodes there are a total of 5 different images cached with 102 different file names.
Is this a known issue or am I a fringe case? Would a log dump of a re-cache help locate the problem?

Thanks Guys

Hey Spectrum,

I have noticed something similar lately were some of my shows are sharing the same fanart for episodes. For the most part I have had the correct ones but lately seems to be something odd going on there.

I'll have to defer to one of the Diamond team who knows the caching part of our API and how we are getting the fanart to respond on what might be happening.

I can't put my finger on how long it's been going on for me, but it has been awhile. It's really noticeable if you delete the cache and let it rebuild. Oh and I think Diamond must be semi self-aware... It always picks the goofy episode fanart to cache, never the cool ones

I have OS images and regular backups so if you want me to guinea pig something just let me know.

Sounds like it, and it sounds like it may be Sean's problem to fix In my case though there IS fanart for the episode in question. It sounds like phoenix.fanart.GetDefaultEpisode() is always returning episode 1's fanart for every episode in the season. I have 102 episodes of Alias over 5 seasons and all the episodes for each season have episode 1 of that season's fanart.

Not sure why that would be case, so I'm going to add in some extra debugging. Unfortunately, I can't give you a test jar this weekend because I'm the process of refactoring some other stuff. But, since you can reproduce it, I'll probably add some debug code, and then when I deploy the next phoenx jar, I'll grab your log files and see what's going on.

In the meantime, GetDefaultEpisode, returns the sagetv default episode image IF it cannot find the specific image. You can simply call the GetEpisode api if you don't want this functionality, and it will return null if it can't find the image. This doesn't fix your problem as to why I can't determine the season/episode information, but it will probably fix the problem of you seeing the "Default" episode image when there isn't a specific one.
I just double checked and the alias episodes are still considered TV files and db entries look correct. Maybe as a work around look into using the GetEpisode api and if it returns a null then use series fanart instead of series/season/episode fanart?

I've got a workaround for this and I'll try and sneak it into the next a Diamond update.
