Caching of images

I know you mentioned there are some new tweaks to come in future firmware versions but would it be possible to perhaps add caching of images for SMM on a USB stick? I know they have implemented this on the Dune units and I was wondering if it may increase the speed when using an extender.

Great plug-in by the way... keep up the good work ;-)

PS... perhaps extender support from within the MyMovies iPad app? ;-) ... That would work for my guests so they wouldn't have to use my Crestron panels :-)

USB can't happen sagetv doesn't support it and actually it would be slower then running from server like it does now (don't forget extender UI is rendered at the server so the extender usb wouldn't be as fast as your computer)

2. Ipad is being discussed.

Build a client pc. Then you get to play the codec game, but lots of ram and an ssd make for very fast image loading. Everything is lightning fast. Very nice.

Hey does a faster server make any difference to the extender experience. I see that the rendering is done on the server in extender mode so it got me wondering if certain hardware would make any difference and were the money should be spent.
eg SSD drives, more than 4GB of ram quad core vs dual core.

I have just increased the java heap is there any other tricks.

Current hardware specs is
4GB ram
Intel I5 dual 2.6GHz
windows server 2008R2 64bit
4x 2TB hdds
1x 1.5 tb Hdd dedicated for recording

Are you running with poster fade in off?

It will help to some extent yes especially in ram and processor.

I don't see a ssd helping a extender now a client is a different story.

Thanks PluckyHD really like your app I have changed the poster fade in awhile ago seems to run well.
I have 2 HD300's which I bought them after seeing your other posts and don't really want to go back to PC clients again. I guess I am looking for some advice as to what else I might be able to do to improve the general performance with the extenders but would never go back to pc clients (well almost never).

Clients >>> Extenders.. ;-) Though unfortunately the people developing the most graphically intensive plugins, are sticking to the 'design for extender' approach... I want full 3D in SMM Plucky! :-)

Well I agree with that statement speed wise, but everything else is extenders>>>clients. Find me I good client that I can do hd audio and native bluray and not have to constantly mess with codecs. It has to be small and rf or external ir so I can mount it behind the tv.

Oh yeah and it has to be $150 as well

When you find that then we will talk about 3d and client based development.

Meh, you're just taking the easy way out.. ;-) A Chevy Aveo is smaller, less powerful, and cheaper than a Camaro too... but which one is better? I mean, they'll both get you there. I know I spend more time in front of my tv than I do in my car, so why skimp there?

Yes better 3D support would be great but is not a reality yet for the extender will be interesting to see what's happening with the DLink boxee and if that tech can be used with sagetv. Dlink was stating somewhere that the box can be used for other applications so there may be hope in that direction.

Never could get sage to play nice on a client with all the different formats so maybe fuzzy can give us his recipe for sage client setup and codecs. I did get media portal running pretty good but did not like it not having client server support a real backward step compared to sagetv.

I was discussing 3D rendered UI, which SageTV fully supports in v7. Just noone's really taken advantage of the features yet.

Windows7+ffdshow covers everything I've thrown at it. Though I also use ArcSoft TMT3 so that I can get full BluRay support (including 3D, Menu's, BDLive, etc)
