What are the supported DVB-S2 tuners in SageTV 7

Hi Folks,

I think my TBS 6981 might be dead in the water; support have confirmed it is not officially supported.

Who is using a DVB-S2 tuner (preferably dual-tuner) successfully with SageTV 7.1.x at the moment and, is recording and watching BBC HD, ITVHD, Channel 4HD without issue?

If so, what tuners do you recommend and I will buy one

Simon

I have the same question. I've been planning to move to a dual DVB-S system at some point (My DVB-T signal breaks up sometimes) and a dual pci-e card would be neatest

Failing that though, I may have to consider an older PCI based PC with 2 WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 cards as they seem to work OK (Not tried looking for Channel 4 HD though)

The TBS 6981 works fine with all the HD channels BBC1, ITV1 and C4 HD as I tried it this afternoon. It tunes quickly too with reasonable playback quality.

I am currently running on integrated intel graphics and due to put my graphics card back in for HDMI output.

Problem is, SageTV only sees one tuner

Probably better to buy 2 of the 6980's as these should show up individually.

I had the same problem with my Blackgold BGT3595 when v7 first came out (apparently it's fixed now but I haven't tried it), so I'm using DVBLink as the bridge between the tuners and Sage by following Damian's excellent guide here, it seems a lot more complicated than it is but IMO it's worth the effort for what DVBLink brings to the table, for example channel setup is much easier, channel re-scans are also simple, just do the rescan in DVBLink and that's it, no changes required to Sage.

The only downside to this approach is that with v4 of DVBLink looming, it's not certain whether this setup will continue to work as DVBLogic are changing their architecture from using BDA to PBDA.

But surely you don't have to upgrade ? If v3 is stable stick with it ?

Very true, but v4's just so shiny, I can't help myself!

Got round the issue. Sent the dual tuner TBS 6981 back and replaced it with two TBS 8921 single S/S2 tuners in my vacant PCI bays.

No messing about with DVBLink (although I got it working) now just two separate tuners on a new XMLTV HD-only line-up.

Works perfectly, with HD channels starting at channel 100 on a separate line-up and all SD (HDHomerun) channels working as normal.

Channel 4 HD works fine with the WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 card

Native support with TBS 6984

I can confirm that the TBS 6984 works fine for DVB-S and DVB-S2 channels as well as working Natively with Sage as all 4 tuners are detected in Video Sources
