In fact, one of the properties being reset is the one used to determine when the next EPG update should occur, thus if you properly remove all property entries containing the names I included as part of the instructions in the first post, SageTV will automatically update the EPG when it is restarted.

Just do what the instructions say, then give it time to do its work. You can confirm that the EPG update is under way (or about to be) by going to System Information & scroll down. It will say "Next EPG Update In: 0 minutes". If it says something like "23 hours 58 minutes", then it has already updated the EPG & the schedule will be updated whenever that processing is done.

since there are no stupid questions... does the removing lines from properties ONLY apply to version 7.19?

cause' I just tried it with version 7.1.7, and there was no improvement - still listing my next update as six hours from now, and no change to listings

edit: now deleted the "expanded_until" lines, and got a reset to 0 minutes for EPG update. fingers crossed

OK, that did it...the "exanded" lines did the trick

Hi,

I've done all the steps of removing/adding a channel, as well as force an EPG update through the webserver.

I'm still showing No Data for the vast majority of my programs. It is a chilling sight. Am I the only one? Shows have started not recording.

And what the heck do we do when this gets killed permanently? That year will pass quickly.

Per

* moved/merged; see post #1 *

EDIT: It works now. Perhaps EPG downloaded for future programs and not the ones at current time. When I look at the Program Guide now, a couple of hours later, all titles are populated.

Oh. So you do need to follow ALL the instructions.

(And probably it needs to be "and" instead of "or" in the instructions.)

That's what I've been repeatedly trying to say -- "It can be resolved by clearing the two properties listed in the first post of this thread", "If you've edited both types of property lines correctly while SageTV is not running", "properly remove all property entries containing the names I included as part of the instructions in the first post".

You can't skip a step:
  1. SageTV must be exited. If you don't exit SageTV, the property edits won't remain.
  2. ALL the property lines in question must be removed. If you decide it is worth trying to only remove some, you are wasting your own time and will have to repeat the process. If you have more than 1 lineup, there are more than 2 lines to be removed.
  3. SageTV must then be restarted. If you fail to restart SageTV, no EPG data will be downloaded and there will be no recordings from SageTV.

Steps 1 & 2 are very important. I just had to include #3, though I'm sure it is obvious given step 1.

No, "or" is correct because it says to remove all properties containing one or the other listed names -- no property line contains both strings, thus the 'or'.

Andy, I really appreciate how you take responsibility for SageTV, even though I'm sure that Google is not particularly fond of you spending your time on it.

I hope we can come up with a solid solution for continuing program guide. My SageTV machine is armored with RAID 1 and on- and off-site backups, I have extra hardware, and I can keep going for years like a Mars probe. The server-dependency for EPG is the achilles heel of the whole thing. I don't understand all the XMLTV stuff, and it doesn't seem that you can readily subscribe to a service. I will happily pay for it.

I have a lot of "missing data" now also. I haven't had a chance to check, but it may be that some channels got renamed!

Yeah you're right. I just could see someone with a quick read and going well I removed all of the 'server_update_id' lines and since it says "or" let's just see what happens. I was thinking to make it crystal clear it could say remove all the 'server_update_id' properties and then remove all the 'expanded_until' properties. Then save your changes before restarting Sage.

It's probably a potato/pototo thing.
