On 10/16 when it hadn't happened, I set up a few Manuals just in case but then found this post matching what I was seeing. I followed the instructions in the first post (shut down Sage service; remove all the lines from the "Sage.properties" file that have the string 'server_update_id' or 'expanded_until') and after a few minutes the Program Guide and expected pending recordings for those dates looked normal.

It's interesting to realize how dependent I've become on Sage and especially the EPG guide to find and record shows. As I started to set up the Manuals I had no idea which shows were on Mon & Tues night (times, channels, new or repeats). Some were regular shows but a couple were one-time recordings that I didn't even remember setting up. I hope this isn't a preview of next year if & when Sage EPG data updates stop working.

I'm also concerned about how silently and permanently Sage stopped working on the two nights even though it was apparently (again?) receiving valid EPG data. I don't babysit the program and would have hoped & expected it to auto-correct and update given valid EPG data rather than just continuing to wrongly assert that there's "No Data." The recommended "fix" of manually editing cryptic lines in a key Sage config file (Sage.properties) seems like a pretty awkward and risky undertaking for many users.
Yeah Color me frustrated. Tuned in tonight to see that nothing was recording as most of my channels suddenly have no data. I've already fixed this last month and now it happened again???

EPG Missing Primetime

I just encountered a strange issue. SageTV is missing EPG info, but not for every channel and only for primetime. I forced an EPG update, but the results were the same. Has anyone else seen something like this?

Same issue here. Did Google pull the plug early?

Same thing is happening to me! Getting no data on many channels tonight and tomorrow night, but data comes back outside of prime time and later this week? Happened about a week ago as well for a few nights - ends up missing recordings.

Edit - next thread down fixes the problem - had to remove two settings in the sage.properties file and restart the service - all better - too bad I didn't know this before I missed the recordings :>

I've merged all the recent topics about this same issue. Please read the existing threads before starting new ones for things that are already covered.

There were 2 EPG issues that happened over the past month or so:

1) The EPG data had a glitch, which caused the EPG server to have data problems. After that was fixed, the first post of this topic was updated with instructions how to reset the program listings to have the missing data repaired. (Listing after the missing period would have continued regardless.)

2) Unrelated to #1 but occurring soon afterwards, the EPG servers were moved & many SageTV installations were not able to updated their cached IP address until SageTV was restarted (Java IP caching issue). Restarting SageTV should have been all that was needed, but about a couple weeks ago, people began reporting some missing EPG listings for Oct 17 - 19. Resetting the properties as instructed in the first post of this topic fixed that also.

What people have noticed happening today is not a new third issue: now that we have arrived at the 17th, some people have discovered missing listings for today & the next couple days. That was already covered by #2 above and the solution is the same: see the first post of this topic regarding how to manually correct it by editing a properties file.

I think the worst that will happen for anyone who hasn't noticed the missing EPG data is that some listings are missing over the next few days & then the listings continue as usual.

my experience...

woke up this morning to the guide being shotgun holed between the 17th and the 19th (somewhere around the middle of the 19th the guide became fully populated from then on.) I'd already tried the changes suggested about a week ago and forgot about the problem totally until just now. tried downing service, editing Sage.properties again, restart the service... waited 5 minutes, no change. rebooted the service a 2nd time and waited another 5 minutes... no change. went in and 'twiddled' a channel on one of my tuners... now the guide is fully populated. guess my suggestion to people going )*&)(^) this morning...

1) twiddle a channel
2) do the Sage.Properties edit sequence, then twiddle a channel again

edit:
something else I just noticed...
my scheduled recordings weren't filling in for the missing dates correctly... so programs that were now in the guide weren't going to be recorded. restarted the service a 3rd or 4th time (lost count!) and that seems to be corrected.

It usually takes more than 5 minutes to update everything & redo the schedule. If you've edited both types of property lines correctly while SageTV is not running, you should just need to restart SageTV.

I saw this thread updated yesterday and I just happened to choose that day to migrate to my new server. Guide updated properly once everything was up and running. Glad to see it fixed.

New epg server huh? Interesting.

Unhappy No Guide Data?

I have been using STV 7.1.3 (I think the .3 is right) for a few months, and everything has been pretty good.

I just noticed today that I have no program data, and the Program Guide shows "No Data" for almost everything (don't know why it has a few, seemingly random, shows still listed by name).

Can anyone point me to a FAQ and/or troubleshooting guide for the Guide data here in the USA? (I know there are different sources for different countries, etc.) Don't know why it would suddenly stop working like that.

Thanks in advance,
AJ

Sorry, I posted my question in the wrong forum. Didn't notice the EPG-specific one, but thank you Andy and/or other sysadmin for moving my post.

So do I understand it correctly that restarting STV (and/or rebooting the PC it's on) should auto-correct this problem, because it'll go get the new IP Address of the EPG Servers and update itself?

Thanks again,
AJ

Go into the channel manager (within video source) and turn on, then off a channel that was off.

As far as the sage.properties edit, you need to do it while sage (service) is down.

My OTA channels updated but all my directv channels still show no data. Guess I need to wait a little while longer.

HELP!!! My EPG data appears to have gone wacko!

Don't know what's going on with my EPG data but I suddenly have a whole lotta
"No Data"'s showing up in my guide. I tried dumping and re-setting up my video sources and channel lineups but still the same. The really weird part is that some channels appear to consistently have data, some consistently have no data and others have data sometimes and no data others. As an example DSC has two back to back 'Auction Kings', while DSCHD has a 'No Data' at 8:00 and 'Auction Kings' at 8:30.

I'm using the SageTV EPG source.

My cable service is Knology of Kansas (Lawrence) Extended Digital Service.

Nice. Missed who knows what.

Thing about Sage is, it works so well, when it doesn't it's like your pacemaker has misfired.

Explaining the missing X-Factor episode to my kids will be a real treat.

Thanks!

First paragraph there had everything except should include a forced EPG update afterwards.

The instructions in the first post cover everything that needs to be done, so please don't try to make the fix appear more difficult by adding unnecessary steps.

In fact, one of the properties being reset is the one used to determine when the next EPG update should occur, thus if you properly remove all property entries containing the names I included as part of the instructions in the first post, SageTV will automatically update the EPG when it is restarted.

Just do what the instructions say, then give it time to do its work. You can confirm that the EPG update is under way (or about to be) by going to System Information & scroll down. It will say "Next EPG Update In: 0 minutes". If it says something like "23 hours 58 minutes", then it has already updated the EPG & the schedule will be updated whenever that processing is done.

Wow, I had the same issue with the guide today. And following the first posts instructions about editing the lines with the two strings in them worked. And my shows did record tonight. Thank You!
