Sage not talking to USB UIRT?
HDPVR stopped working, so I took the opportunity to go ahead and upgrade to 7.1.9 . Under tuner control I have always has Motorola DCT2000, just repro'd the numbers. Now, when I go to reprogram, the sage learning dialog box very briefly flashes and then reports "there was an error learning the code"
USBUIRT sees the remote (led flashes), but lrnhelper.exe says there is no USBUIRT. Win7 device manager says there is and its working fine with driver 2.4.16 Feb 2009 I have plugged the uirt into a few different usb ports, uninstalled.reinstalled, etc. also, once i have attempted to reprogram a number and it errors out, sage no longer has the number listed as a choice. IOW, my list of numbers to repro now starts at 4 ideas? tia

Well lmhelper is strictly an executable for use in troubleshooting USB-UIRT. If it can't find it the issue is outside of Sage. You may want to consult the forum at USB-UIRT.

The lrnhelper.exe utility is an excellent way to troubleshoot the USB-UIRT independent of SageTV. If the lrnhelper.exe utility cannot 'see' the USB-UIRT, then the driver is most likely the problem. Remove the driver, reboot, then re-install the driver.
If that does not work, then you can isolate the problem further by connecting the USB-UIRT to another computer. If the USB-UIRT still does not function, then it is likely to be the USB-UIRT itself. If the USB-UIRT works on the other computer with lrnhelper.exe, then you know you have either a hardware or software problem with the SageTV computer. Next, recover the SageTV computer back to a point in time when the USB-UIRT worked with the SageTV computer with an image. If the USB-UIRT does not work with the SageTV computer, then you know there is a SageTV computer hardware problem. Or, if the USB-UIRT works after the image recovery, then you know it was a software problem. You won't know what caused the software problem, but that won't matter because the problem will be fixed and the software problem will probably not reoccur. OKay, usbuirt worked on another computer, and is now working on sage server, at least with lrnhelper. SAge still doesn't talk to it, and I still have the missing digits issue. Seems like there used to be a file that contained the remote programming info. COuldn't I just pull that from one of my backups? If so, what is it called?

Fixed-
rather than restoring the entire computer, i just found a backup of the irremote file. just fyi, there was never anything wrong with the usbuirt. lrnhelper can't see it period if the sage service has control of it thanks!

You could restore the *.ir file from a backup when the USB-UIRT was functional with SageTV. That might fix the problem if that is the only thing wrong.
You can create a new IR file with the USB-UIRT. Some experimentation might need to be done with the 'repeatcount' value though. When I have tested the USB-UIRT on my SageTV computer, I always stopped the SageTV application and service. I never thought of trying to run both SageTV and the LrnHelper utility at once. Backups and images are more important than ever. Someday, without any warning, the forum might be gone. It is safer to have multiple ways to restore the SageTV computer, including to different hardware if the system board fails. Dave |

My sage server lost the usbuirt again. I shut down the sage service, unplugged/replugged the usbuirt, and restarted sage, now all is well. Probably a matter of time before we start missing recordings again though. I don't think this is a sage issue though, bacuse lrnhelper couldn't see it either until i replugged it. No changes to the server in months. ANyone else having these issues repeat?

Fix
See if these help you. Since you are having recurring problems, I recommend one of thse paths.
I had major IR issues a couple of times. Now everything is working well and has been for months (and I reboot daily). http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...light=irremote http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...ghlight=remote |

That sounds like a royal pain to go through a re-install and set hundreds of parameters! If you go through a time consuming and painful re-install, make sure to take an image of your system, so you can fix it quickly if it breaks again.

As far as the image thing goes, you might want to check out the Sageback (or is it sagebackup) batch file utility. If all sage processes have been shutdown and all items are restored from the last backup (except for wiz.bin - CAREFUL), the working Sage should be restored. (Unless the system has been updated to a newer sage engine, since that could change the wiz.bin and prevent the previously-working sage from being restored. Because of this, I always run the Sageback utility before a major change to Sage, so I can restore the original wiz.bin, too.) Restoring from an image will also restore a previous wiz.bin that does not have record of any recordings made since the last image. You could always backup the wiz.bin and the transfer after re-imaging, though. |
