Recording Conversion quality and schedule

I have about 300GB of external storage for recordings on a dual core, 3GB RAM Win7 laptop. I plan on making some new purchases sometime soon but waiting to see what comes of the Google thing and maybe nab some rockin BF deals in November.

So, a couple of questions regarding conversion of recorded favorites:

1. Does anyone have a setting recommendation for converting OTA recordings from HDHomerun stream? I see this can be done automatically which is cool. I'd like to keep it 720p. I use an HD200 and HD300 connected to LCDs.

2. Can the conversion be scheduled? i.e.: nightly 2am?

Convert them to what format? Sage supports the native format the HDHomerun creates.

Also, why do you want to downgrade 1080i streams to 720p?

Assuming your motivation is to reduce the size of the files, I've been happy with the AppleTV ->High Quality Widescreen conversion. The files end up something like 10% of their former size, and the quality looks fine to me. Try it on a recording or two, and see what you think.

As for scheduling, I think the conversions could be scheduled with SageJobQueue plugin. I haven't really noticed a problem with conversion during the day, so I usually just choose a show, and choose the Convert All Recordings option after selecting the show name to mass-convert all of the recordings for that show over a weekend.
