"Java Runtime...Missing" ?

I'm getting this little gem when I start the SageTV app on my 24-7 PC - which is being used as the SageTV server: http://tinyurl.com/3rbk6ax (i.e. "Java Missing.... Could not create JVM. Please reinstall Java Runtime Environment 1.4")

Seemed like Java was up to v6.something, so I downloaded the 1.4 runtime installer (1.4.2 (j2re-1_4_2_19-windows-i586-p).exe), installed, and re-booted.

But the message persists.

Can anybody suggest what I am doing wrong?

Ditto, I just got this today when I tried to up my Java heap size over 1024. I was constantly running out of memory (java not system).

Are you limiting heap size via a command line argument when SageTV is started or by something in a Java setup screen?

Also, does running the SageTV Service behind the SageTV application make a diff?

Java Heap link

Or use this tool.

My PC client always seems to look pretty good but my extenders keep showing very high usage. Then the service will lock up shortly there after. I have noticed the most issues when using hulu via playon. Still trying to figure out why that is. I am also having problems with my extenders picking up the PC client settings instead of their own.

Problem Solved (or, at least, worked around)

RegEdit | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Frey Technologies | SageTV | JVMMaxHeapSizeMB

I found it set to 400 (1024k).

Dropped it down to 200 (768k) and the problem went away.

Kicked it back up to 400, problem came back....

Left it at 300 and everybody's happy.

That seems to beg a question:

What's the problem with allocating 1024? Reading a couple of other posts, I came away with the idea that maybe other TSL's (or whatever they are...) are taking up so much memory from some pool or another that there isn't 1024 left for Sage.... but there is 768.

Am I even close?

IIRC Java needs a contiguous block of memory for heap. On your box you may not be able to get a whole gig of contiguous space, but are able to get 768MB. Again that's what I'm remembering, I haven't asked the google about it so I may be remembering wrong

Still says "could not find jvm.dll

This started yesterday or the day before. I changed the heap size trying all different values. I even re-installed JRE1.4.2, I still get this error when trying to start sage.

Sage7 won't run using the 1.4 JRE, the error message you first saw was wrong.
