What might be causing the image to look like it does?

Check out the blacks in the attached image. Why do I see this often. I see it in TV, Bluray and DVD. My TV is a 55" Vizio LED 3D TV.

Looks like the brightness on your tv is set WAY too high. Get a calibration video to determine the proper levels for your tv.

SageTV-not extender, not a client-running in service mode.

Looks like your PC is running in 16 or 256 colors, though I guess you would see it everywhere, not just on video files... Tried playing back with a different codec, like say through Windows Media Player?

A screen cap of your video card config would also be helpful.

It is not clear .. are you playing everything back through SageTV? Or do you have another input source to compare with (like tuner, cable box, etc). If you have another source, does this happen there too?

BTW, is this the XVT3D554SV? Its one of a few TVs I'm considering .. you may have talked me out of it..

Thanks,

Drew

Probably a combination of too much brightness and improper settings in the decoder or a poor quality decoder (the deblocking filter for h264/AVC appears to be turned off or unavailable). Bad/low bit-rate (Netflix Watch Now) encodes will also display this.
