I just wanted to thank the Phoenix developers for making me excited about SageTV again. Good Work guys.

Thanks to crusing for starting a specific thread for this, as I should have done. I wrote this in another thread earlier today....
the Phoenix developers should know that of all the upgrades/enhancements I've ever done with Sage (starting from Sage 4), Phoenix is the first time that my family said "wow, that's really an upgrade", rather than complaining "what do we have to learn now?"

I must concur with all you guys. The only thing missing from sage was rich metadata and a great UI. It was the only thing holding it back from greatness. It's a shame how many people were/are turned off from sage because of it's UI (including myself for a few years) because it's features and flexibility can not be touched. These devs have truly made sage the best dvr/media center platform and the user base would probably have grown exponentially if google didn't mess everything up. There's truly no major feature I need out of this platform now.

Ps.. The only thing that sage is missing that might matter to some is true cable card drm support for premium channel recording.

I've used SageTV for 5-6 year now, and tried out most STVs. Yet I'm in the minority that find Phoenix hard to use. I'm not a fan of the WMC/Phoenix menu navigation method, seems less intuitive than the Tivo/default STV method. During my test with it, I got to the EPG screen and could not get back to the main home screen. Hitting the home button or back button doesn't do it. I had to exit SageTV and launch it again to get to the home screen. And then while playing with all the screens, somehow it went back the default STV. Then I had to load the Phoenix STV again to get Phoenix back. And this happened several times. It can't be good for WAF rating.

or maybe its user error and I'm doing something wrong.

Home->Home gets you back to the main menu (unless you choose the config option to disable the shortcut menu - then just 1 Home will do). Also, if you find yourself in the original menu system (and there are places where that happens), go to Exit, and an option is there to restore the Phoenix menu. Or, again, I think Home->Home will do the trick.

Agreed there is a learning curve, and it's not mouse-able (or advertised as such). But my wife, who's never been anywhere close to configuring anything in Sage before (mostly avoided it), sat patiently with Phoenix and went through the DVD library choosing the fanart to display for DVDs. It sounds like a small thing, but in terms of Spousal Acceptance Factor, it was huge.

Mayamaniac, you may also like/prefer the box landing zone as opposed to the mc style. All/most info is displayed on sort of a HUD.
