Yeah, drillnig holes is always fun. but in MOST situations, the flex bits just work really well. As long as you have enough space in the wall/ceiling for it to straighten out before coming in contact with the headers/fireblocks/studs, etc, and the obstruction isn't too thick (like your composited beam), it works very well, ans is actually quite quick. Usually worth cutting a wider entry hole to make it easier, and then patching it up. In the end, it's something that has to be done once, and it's over with... and you will reap the rewards for a LONG time.
