limiting my kid's daily TV time
Hi!
My 8-year old needs some TV-time limits... I already have Win7 prental control set, so he gets a schedule on his account on his computer (7am to 19pm), but I want to limit the use of SageTV to, say, 1 hour per day. Is there a SageTV feature, or add-in that can do that? Maybe externally from Windows? Thanks! |

Yep, its called "TRY" plugin or in other words "Take Responsibility Yourself" .... to set it up you have to get off your bum and switch the TV off yourself then tell your child that's all they can watch today.

I second that! Goes for PC too!

You sure stick it to your 8-year old for PC usage. He must disown you for not being able to use the computer before 7 in the morning or after 7 at night.
(I'm just kidding with you. I also have a problem with TV watching, but it's with my almost 3 year old, who's at home 3 of the 5 weekdays. My wife's home with our 4-month old so some days, they have "movie day", where I'm sure a kid's movie is on all day. Tough to do with a newborn that needs all the attention - so if you're my wife reading this (unlikely) - I totally understand) |

One of the soon to be release addons (forget which one) is suppose to have multi user support. Might check with them if they are planning limits like these too.

The Multi User Support plugin I released does not have this capability, but it could be added. I can't speak for Phoenix and Ortus but it can't hurt to ask them.

Wow, whats with all the rudeness? Come on guys, lets not be *that* forum
That being said, I don't think Sage or any plugins currently do this, though it certainly seems possible. At playback you'd just need to grab a list of all the shows watched in the last 24 hours, check how much of the show was actually watched, and if the total time is greater than a threshold throw up a pop-up window telling your kid to go read a book or something

I think a sleep timer would be the easiest way to accomplish that.

I would love to test this and I'm already using the production version of that plugin.

OK. I'm doing more testing and if I don't find any serious errors I'll post something tomorrow or Monday.
