Need help setting up Colossus channel tuning

I just installed a Colossus and I have the picture and sound working fine.

But I can't get the builtin blaster setup within Sage.

What I am doing is:
* Setup Video Sources
* select the colossus
* then move right into the detail area and select Tuner control

When I first added it as a source, I selected "cable or satellite to change channel" and then selected the Hauppauge IR Blaster.

Now in the details section it says "Hauppauge IR Blaster StubDevice".

when I select that, I get a menu popping up. If I select any of the items on the menu, it seems like it should show me a list of different satellite boxes that I have IR codes setup for, but every menu is empty.

If I push ahead and select Learn New Command, as soon as I enter a command name I get back "There was an error learning the code." instantly.

I am thinking that my problem is that Sage didn't let me create a new STB entry to attach the code to. But I can't find anywhere other then this menu item where I would teach it IR codes.

Can somebody who has the Colossus setup please give me a pointer?

Thanks
Greg

anybody tried adding a Colossus to 7.1.7?

I can't figure out how to program the IR blaster on the Colossus w/ Sage. It might be user error. I originally posted this in the hardware forum thinking it was hardware related, but this morning I wondered if it was Beta related.

Here is the link to my post in the hardware forum.

Any thoughts? * merged with existing topic *

I have not set up the Hauppauge blaster in awhile but if I recall you set up the individual STB with the internal IR program that came with it. I just make sure that thing powers on\off and can change a channel. From there Sage will use that setup when changing channels.

Did you install the IR Blaster utility?

Sorry, i gave up on hauppauge blasters along time ago and switched to the usb-uirt.

But

HAve you checked that the blaster shows up with hauppauge's irblaster program? did you install hauppauge's irblaster program (you have to.)? Do you have other hauppauge cards in the system? hauppuage only allows 1 blaster and if you have another card it might be trying to use the wrong card.

etc..

In other words, please provide some more details.

So setting up the Hauppauge blaster is different than setting up a USB-IRT?

I did not setup the blaster with any Hauppauge utility. I will go look into doing that. I had assumed sage worked the same if you were using the USB-IRT or a Hauppauge blaster.

Thanks for the pointer, I will go check that out.

I do have two cards, a pvr-250 (not using the blaster, no hauppauge software installed for it other than the drivers).

I just dropped in the colossus. I did install wintv7, but I uninstalled it once I proved that the card was working because I thought I read somewhere that having it installed could cause problems with sage.

Anyway, I assumed that I would be able to setup the blaster within Sage the same way I setup the usb-irt - have sage learn the codes etc.

I will now go look at reinstalling the wintv software and setting up the ir software from Hauppauge.

Thanks for the pointer. I did search through the docs and didn't see that mentioned. I could have missed it though.

The Hauppauge IR software randomly picks one of the blasters from all the Hauppage cards installed. It may choose the one from the pvr-250 instead of the Colossus.

What kind of STB are we talking about? If it supports serial, firewire, or ethernet tuning, that would be a better way to go.

It is a StarChoice DSR505 STB. I don't think it supports any other channel tuning options. One of them uses an R5000 mod so the tuning is controlled by the usb port.

I think I am going to just stick with the usb-uirt that I have setup for the PVR250 I am about to retire because I am also moving to win7.

you dont need to install wintv, just the irblaster32.exe program.

However, you have a 50/50 shot that it will detect the colossus, and 50/50 that it will detect the 250. And no, you cant configure it, or lock it to a card. Good luck on a reboot also, b/c it can switch.

Stick with the usb-uirt.
