Watch from the beginning of a recording, including the padding

I have a couple of minutes of padding before the recording of shows. Whenever I start playing a recording though, it starts at time "0" instead of time "0-padding". This is bad because it's usually after the show has started and I have to skip backward to the beginning of the show.

Is there any way to tell SageTV to really really start at the beginning? I can't get rid of the padding because TV shows never seem to start exactly when the computer thinks they will, even if I tell it to use the SageTV time servers.

There's no out-of-the-box option for that as far as I know. There might be a plugin.

That said, I'm not sure how starting at zero and sometimes having to skip back a bit is really so much worse than starting at the beginning of the padding and always having to skip forward.

the only reason to have the padding is because the time the show starts is more often wrong then not

if it always skips the padding, then its like saying that you dont need it

Sorry, but this makes no sense. Even if the start time is wrong only 10% percent of the time, I still want padding to catch that 10%. Otherwise I'd miss the start of the show one time in ten. The other 90% of the time, I want the padding there (just in case) but I don't want to sit through it. So if start times are usually right but not perfect, then the smart thing is to have padding but skip over it by default.

No, the smart thing is to give the user the option.

An option implies a default. All I'm saying is that I think the current behavior is a reasonable default (and apparently so do the Sage devs).

I definitely need the padding, I don't want to miss the beginning of the shows.

I agree that if it starts at time "0-padding" I'll still have to fast forward for all shows, but I prefer that to having to rewind. Mostly it's because if it starts playing at time "0" it may be a bit into the show and I'll see the punchline to an opening joke before seeing the joke. That can ruin it.

Plus when I explain to my wife/kids/friends that you hit play and then have to rewind a bit, I see how silly that sounds.

Sigh.....

There is NO OPTION - Got it NO OPTION.

It's a matter of a default option, there NO OPTION.

There should be.

That's my point.

Fine. You have your opinion; I have mine. No need to get into a shouting match over it.

I agree with the OP. By configuring padding at the beginning of a show I am, in effect, changing the start time so I would expect Sage to start playing a show at that modified start time.

I don't expect Sage to stop playing a show at the original end time if I have configured end padding do I? No, because I have changed the end time via padding.

I'd like to see this option as well. I pad all my shows, nothing starts or ends on time.

I have no strong opinion one way or the other concerning this option. However, I see little value in it. It seems to me you are going to use the skips either way. I currently skip backwards to find to beginning. With this option you would probably be skipping forward to find the start of the show. It really comes down to which direction requires the fewest skips.
