Question Padding a Recording After the Recording Starts

Just started using SageTV over the last couple of days and am just getting my feet wet.

What I'm wondering is if it's possible to pad a recording after it has started to record. The motivation being live sports (or other live programming).

If I notice a game is likely to run beyond the listed time in the EPG can I tell SageTV to pad the recording before it ends?

Ultimately, my motivation behind all of this is to write a plugin that will automatically pad such recordings for me. A quick look at the API docs suggests that this might be doable as the API definitely has methods to manipulate recording times, but isn't clear as to whether they're useful on in-progress recordings. Before I started experimenting, I thought I'd check here to see if anyone is familiar with modifying start/stop times for active recordings.

Yes, I do it all the time. You have to make the recording a manual recording. Then you can extend the ending time for the recording.

From what I'm reading in the API, a manual recording is any recording not triggered by a favourite rule? Could a non-manual (favourite?) recording be extended by modifying the padding for the favourite rule while the program's recording, but before it ends?

I assume the scheduler recalculates the schedule based on the extension period added to the recording and properly identifies newly created conflicts, etc. introduced by the padded recording?

Yes, you can change the padding of a favorite while it is recording. I'm not sure what happens if there is a subsequent scheduled recording that has a higher prority. Of course if your doing this via a plugin then it's easy enough to just call Record(), to make it a manual recording and therefore highest priority.

Probably best for you to move this over to the Studio forum where it's more likely to be seen by the people that are working with Studio.

Not entirely -- Intelligent Recordings (IR) are also in the schedule & live TV is also a recording. Live TV isn't scheduled, but once you start watching a live recording, it will continue recording the shows that come after it on the same channel, unless a scheduled (non-IR) recording needs to start. But, IR is created automatically by the core, not the user.

Hmmm... I moved it out of the Customizations forum earlier because it wasn't about an existing customization & I thought the current question was just how to extend a recording in progress. I can move it to the Studio forum if it should be considered more of a "how to program it" question instead of how to make the change in the UI...

There is already an automatic manual record padding plugin
And yes, it works if the recording has already started: you just have to press Record...

(it also works for new faves, and yes the scheduler also recalculates conflicts etc)
