Client Crash to Desktop
I have had client crash (running on the same box as the sage service) to desktop on me 4 times now and each time it happened when using the Diamond Play menu. It seems to happen when pressing play repeatedly to get the Diamond play menu to come up then to play the next unwatched show; so two quickly pressed plays when the series group is highlighted.
All 4 times it was on the same series that is imported from a CIFS share on an unRaid box. It's happened with the drive spun down as well as the drive spun up so I doubt that it is related to hard drive spindown on the unRaid server. That doesn't mean it is not networking related, I just think we can rule out drive spinup being the problem. The good news (I guess) is that I've managed to capture client and server logs for 2 occasions. I'm hoping you guys can take a look and tell if this is a Diamond problem or a core problem. I can't really test it with Diamond removed/disabled considering it's only happening on a Diamond feature... The first log is too big to post so it's linked here CTD-1.zip. The second log is attached. For both cases the time at the end of the client log is when the client just poofed. |

I don't see it in the first set of logs, but in the second log the server has lots of communication errors. Might be related, might not.

Yeah I noticed that too but couldn't make any definitive conclusions. |

Another crashing victim
Hi,
This is my first post at this forum, although I've been using it a lot in the past 2 weeks. I recently switched from MediaPortal to SageTV and have been trying to get the same features working (My Movies, My TV Series, Launching a Browser, etc). I've been doing well at figuring out problems, but this one has me stumped. In the last couple of days to a week or so, SageTV crashes to the desktop without warning or error message (windows or otherwise). I activated logging and had it crash. It seems like a comms issue - hence why I'm adding to this thread. I'll add my logs in the coming days - sorry, not at home right now. Anyway, just wanted to mention that this possible network comms issue may not be isolated. Having said that, I understand it may be something in my config, I'm still digging and trying to see exactly what triggers the crash. Will let you know. Bruno |

Welcome to the forum. Is sage crashing during playback or just moving around in the UI? I have had my client crash during playback of h264 TS files (from HDPVRs) to the desktop a couple times and it's always when I leave the h264 decoder as default and render as EVR (I have an Ati 5850 video card). As soon as I change that to be Microsoft, ffdshow, Arcsoft, Corecodec and Vrm9 I am fine. Not sure if this will help but worth a try to make sure you have the video decoder setup. J |

If It was while browsing it very well could be the memory bug we fixed when jumping around. If while playing try to recreate with diamond disabled and log it with sagetv If still happens.

Update on crashes
Hi! Thanks so much for the quick replies.
I've noticed 2 specific times when a crash usually occurs - there may be more, I'm still trying to notice... 1. When playing a video (at the very beginning or end mostly). 2. When sitting idle but with the updating icon showing. So it's obviously updating metadata or scanning files for changes, etc (although I have that set on manual). I've tried uninstalling most plugins incl TV Browser, BMT and a bunch of smaller UI Mods. It still crashed. I was positive it was the BMT and/or TV Browser and/or "Move TV Shows to SageTv Imported Recordings", but even with these uninstalled - still crashes. Here are my logs... They seem to show network issues, but I can't be certain. Thanks for you help ahead of time. I hope I can fix this before my trial ends in 6 days. Bruno |

You need to disable all plugins and recreate And send a bug report to sagetv. They are very helpful but you don't want any plugins installed when'd doing this.
