How To Handle 16x9 image in a 4:3 broadcast on a 16x9 TV
I'm currently considering switching from BeyondTV (Due to lack of product support) and am having a few change based issues that I'm sure are mainly not knowing what I'm doing with SageTV.
I'm running SageTV on a standard windows XP box hooked up to a 1080p TV, and often find myself looking at a 4:3 broadcast that holds a letterbox of video in it... so I've got wasted space left, right top and bottom... My TV supports zooming/panning/cropping/etc however when I do that I lose the SageTV UI off the edges of the screen. On Beyond TV I could adjust this easily through a menu option which would make the 16x9 portion fill my screen. I've looked through the manual and can't find anything specific to this, the options I have found are very limited, and while it looks like this is better supported on an HD300 I'm still on the fence if I want to get one of those or not... |

Look for 'Aspect Ratio Controls' in Detailed Setup. There are a four preset options. I, when I used to have a lot of this content, set up the 16x9 mode to be scaled horiz and vert by 133%. This stretched the image to fill the 16x9 display. Then, when I was on these recordings, I'd use a button on my remote mapped the the Aspect Ration toggle command to switch between them.

I basically do the same. I set the AR ratios in 4x3 mode to zoom in 133% so that it zoomes in without distortion. instead so setting up a remote button to toggle to that AR, I use the "automatic aspect ratio switcher" to automate the AR changes as needed.

automatic aspect ratio switcher? Is that an addon (I found auto aspect ratio but it's old, and links to a cyber-squat page not an active sage community site)...
