How do you know SageTV 7 is recording?
filed under the "yes there are stupid questions" column, with Sage 6, when you started a recording, the border around the description information turned red.
How do you know when SageTV 7 is in the "record" mode? I know Sage is "always" recording, but this pertains to the concept of when a favorite, or scheduled recording has succesfully commenced, or when you just hit the record button manually. even when I "stop" recording, the REC light is still at the top of the screen in the "main" menu, and that doesn't make sense either. I undestand that either "M" or "F" will show up in the "schedule" area, but I was looking for a simple, one-button-press indicator. if video is in Full Screen mode, is there a single-mouse-click that tells me what I am seeing is being recorded, or not? If someone in your house is watching Live TV somewhere then the Recording icon will show until ALL clients STOP the recording they are watching. If you power off a client without STOPPING the recording it will continue to record. You can always go to System Information and scroll down. It will tell you exactly what tuner is is recording what show. You can always check Recording Schedule (use By Day) to see what is currently recording (with the REC icon) and what is going to be recorded. (Favorites, Manual and Timed Recordings) And as always, all of the preceding information was brought to you by the SageTV 7 Manual. Available at a SageTV installation near you.

Instead of the border, it shows a Red circle record logo on the item (whether on the guide, search results, whatever)

one feature I miss from BTV that I used way more than I wanted too:
on the server, with BTV running as a service, there was a BTV icon in that little area by the clock... that little icon would be red if BTV was recording... hovering over that little icon would tell you what was recording, or what would be recording in the next couple of hours... it was just a useful little tool for doing maintenance... ie you could tell at a glance if now was a good time to reboot...

I think someone made a program that did that for sage.. never used it though. Probably in the downloads section here of the forums.

That puts an icon in the windows taskbar to show if something is recording or not. So, no, since there is no taskbar on the HD200/300, it won't display there (That's what the REC icon at the top of the screen is for).

There's also a Gadget for Windows Vista/7 that shows recording status as well as upcoming recordings if you have the SageTV Web Interface installed.

ok, thanks for the responses. The nice thing about the old system was that it worked on ALL Sage devices - HD theaters, Placeshifter, etc. Simple red outline. Now if they could make the time cursor glow when a recording is underway, that would be good

I guess I'm failing to see how the REC icon at the top of the window isn't enough..

One thing I have noticed is that if you have recordings grouped by title it unfortunately doesn't always show the recording icon on the top-level group (works sometimes but often doesn't).

the REC icon will display whenever any show is being recorded. Whether it's because you are watching live, recording manually, favorite, or intelligent recording - or even performing a channel scan.
