HD300 wont' access videos via SageTV icon

New installation. Sage TV for WHS running on WHS. Trying to use a HD300 as the client.

When the HD300 first boots up I can access video from the main screen. I had to set the smb userid and password to an account on the WHS, and after doing that on the HD300, the main (1st) screen video link will bring up the movie list and allow them to play.

The trouble comes in when I try to access via the Sage TV link. Once I choose Sage TV, connect to the server, and get the "new" SageTV? main menu it will not access the videos. I've spend hours fiddling and trying to get it to work but have been unsucessful.

To troubleshoot I installed the SageTV client on my XP desktop. I did have some trouble getting it to connect originally. That seems to have been related to the network share having a name with a hyphen in it, I have since changed the share name to \\SERVER\Movies. I also typed in the name of the share instead of choosing it from the drill down menus, and the XP client started working.

So, HD300 will access the video from main menu. XP Sage TV client will access the video from XP PC (Note: XP PC has an account that matches the account on the WHS).

But, the Sage TV link on the HD300 will not access the video files. It acts like a permission issue. In the HD300 SageTV settings, when I choose the media directory via the drill down menus, once I select \\SERVER it comes back with "invalid directory". I see no way to give the HD300 Sage TV client the smb userid and password. I figured it would use whatever the HD300 used. The only place I see to set it on the HD300 is via its own media folder mapping.

As this appears to be an issue withthe SageTV software running on the HD300, I'm not sure which is the culprit, the box or it's soft/firmware. I also posted this in the SageTV software forum.

Can anyone help me figure out how to get it going?

Thanks,
Scott

You've been posting about an SD300... do you mean an HD300?

Does your SageTV service have permission to access those network resources? If it's running as LocalSystem, it does not. You'll need to configure the service to run with proper network credentials to access files by UNC path (even files that live on that same server).

Remember that when running the HD300 in extender mode (i.e. connected to a SageTV server), everything is streamed through the server, so it's the server's credentials that matter. There is no separate credential dialog on the extender in that mode.

I finally traced my problem to some issues with the NetBios Master on my network. I don't normally use SMB so had never had any reason to "tune" that part of my network. Once I got that happy I got the HD300 to work on client mode with it's default interface.

Gave it a hell of a try but was unable to ge tthe MyMovies plug-in to work though. I've got another thread on that in the SMM sub-forum.
