Not something that's going to be easy to accomplish. Phoenix is a completely different UI, so importing TV Explorer's menu into it isn't going to be enough, significant changes will have to be made to the internals of the TVE menu's to point to the parts of phoenix that handle basic functions (playing, deleting, etc).

One thing I'm considering doing with this tweaking of the ui is to get rid of the customization of the height of the group (left) table. with the right side layed out the way it is it doesn't lend itself to being shrunk very easliy (currently not customizable... the overall height of the episode table is customizable but not the rest of it). So since the right really isnt customizable in height I'm thinking that left side shouldn't be either. Also when the banners are only on for the highlighted episode you can still see lots of the background fanart...

Anyway let me know your thoughts (full size image also attached...)

Did this update ever make it to release?

TVExplorer for Sage7 is a GREAT addon, since using cannot think of using SageTV without it

Sorting and Filtering Default UI Comes Close

If you haven't already, spend some time investigating grouping, sorting, and filtering in the default UI. Creating a new view and configuring it appropriately, I was able to closely approximate how TV Series are displayed. Not a 1 to 1 match to TV Explorer, but it comes close enough to get by.

If i remember correctly the menu name in studio is "TVExplorer" (its been a long time since i have looked at that code), however I haven't installed phoenix (diamond guy) so I am not sure it is possible to use TVExplorer with it and to be honest i would be surprised if it ran inside phoenix because it requires the default stv for a fair amount of stuff.

It might be possible for phoenix to launch default stv screens (and so you could probably do it that way).

Any chance the latest Phoenix core's JPG format for fanart doesn't entirely work with TVE? Backgrounds are working, but covers and banners are not. I even forced a "prebuild cache" in Gemstone in order to see if that might be holding them back.

EDIT: Also, I just looked at the image cache for TVE and all the new JPG banners and posters have the red hue to them. I recall this happening once before quite some time ago and someone had to fix something, but I can't remember who or what.

EDIT #2: I suspect they're actually being "displayed" because the text "banner" which should show when there's no image is NOT showing up either. However, for shows which did not have banners (e.g. American Horror Story), the text is there.

Same thing here. I posted about the issue on the Phoenix update thread too. I've had to switch over to Gemstone menus for TV in the mean time.

It looks like TVExplorer development has been dead for quite some time.

Don't count razr out just yet. While development has undoubtedly stopped, he's actually gone back and fixed things which broke in the past. I know he's still active on the forums, too, so we'll see what he says once he reads this (assuming the problem lies with TVE). Keep your fingers crossed.

Looks like there's something funky (red overlay and black rounded corners) going on with the caching of the banners,

The posters are like this as well with the red overlay. Kind of looks like a mask in photoshop...

Not sure where the backgrounds are coming from but they seem ok like you said.

J

PS - Maybe Razr will release that secret version in the post above

I just manually copied an original JPG poster from the server (no red hue) and renamed it on the client PC in the cache folder to its matching, red-hued JPG. That one now shows up as expected. So, I do believe the issue is caused by the red mask.

I think the problem is that the image transformations i am doing to the banners and covers (applying rounded corners and scaling... i think thats it) are not compatible with the new system. The backgrounds are only scaled. The fact that the banners have a red mask and black rounded corners sounds like that part of the transformation is failing. jpg does not support transparency (png does) so perhaps the way the transformation is done is not compatible.

To be honest i am using an ancient version of phoenix (2.3.47 from 11/28/11) and have had no reason to upgrade because things seem to be working fine for me. I will need to upgrade phoenix and see what happens on my system, then i can hopefully find the problem and apply a fix. The fastest thing might be to not round the corners... i'll need to look into it. I should have time this weekend to dig in. In the mean time you can change banner display to "none" in tve options so its at least usable.

EDIT: turns out that that is not the right property.... thanks to peter_h for finding the correct TVE option to disable the banners

I'd call it more stalled... I am using a dev version that suits my needs. It shows a lot of progress but in order for it to be ready for primetime i need to support the phoenix vfs for views and filtering.

I would be inclined to release it as a dev version with several caveats because it is definitely not a full featured release like the current released version...

EDIT: I misspoke ear

Thanks for whatever you are willing/able to do for us, razr. I'm all set to revert to an older Phoenix version if necessary to keep TVE happy (with banners enabled), but wanted to wait for your response about this. Not that this really relates to you or TVE, but I hope that reverting Phoenix doesn't break anything in Gemstone's current or future iterations; that's my only concern with this should you decide you can't/won't get TVE to work with the latest Phoenix. I'll need to choose between Gemstone and TVE. (Sorry Gemstone, but you'll lose that battle. We watch significantly more TV than we do movies. )

But you finally just tried Gemstone... sniff... sniff... (Joking!)

If you revert to Phoenix 2.58 you won't have any problems with the current version of Gemstone. But as we move forward jusjoken/stuckless add things to Phoenix that Gemstone requires so you may have to hold at the current Gemstone version and Phoenix 2.58 until Razr gets it sorted out.

PS - all the Gemtone flows work for TV too!

And the next Gemstone release will have a new Dual Flow solution... similar to TVE (but not the same).

Further to JOrton's comments about using previous Phoenix core versions... Gemstone is VERY tied to the phoenix core and will continue to become more tied to it so it is not recommended to use any prior version.

I'm fairly certain the rounding of the corners is causing a problem. So it should (at the very least) be fairly easy to not round the corners and get back to a usable version... Like i said it will probably have to wait until this weekend for me to have a minute to look at it though...

I've been keeping an eye on that, too. With TVE, it's "if it ain't broken...". But, it just broke. LOL! It would take a lot for me to switch from TVE, though. Like I said, I'd drop Gemstone to keep TVE, if necessary.

@razr: Take your time. It's just TV, afterall, and we have a couple of perfectly acceptable workarounds right now.

Man I'm glad I have WHS for backups. I love TVExplorer too much to have it be broken. i'm gonna revert back to yesterday's image unless there's an easier way to go back to the older phoenix version. I'm using default sage so i don't care about gemstone.

On an unrelated note, I've completely disabled Playon until it gets fixed.

Same issue as everyone else. How does one "roll back" phoenix?

Always open to suggestion to improve Gemstone or get more users using it. The new Dual Flow is coming along nicely and should be released soon... just working on getting the navigation between the 2 lists working well.

Question for TVE users... how important is the left list being Full height? Dual Flow for now in Gemstone is designed to be 2/3 height for both lists.... but perhaps we could come up with an option will a little less in the top info space and the left list full height....

razrsharpe... sorry to be posting Gemstone propaganda on your thread
