HD300 freezes after PC sleeps from inactivity
So here's the scenario.
HD300 connected and turned ON, but perhaps not actually watching anything. Eventually, the screen saver comes up and it scrolls pictures from my shared picture folder. After 30 minutes of inactivity on my PC, the PC goes into sleep mode. Should mention I'm running SageTV 7. Next, if I now go to the TV with the HD300, I find it frozen showing whatever the last photograph was in the screensaver. No buttons do ANYTHING - except the Power button. I have to Power down the HD300, and power it back up. Upon powering backup, it says it's sending the WOL packet to wake the server. It seems to hang on that page forever, but the PC does in fact wake up. Powering cycling the HD300 one more time, it connects to the server. This is real annoying. After both the PC and HD300 are in sleep mode, shouldn't hitting any button on the remote for the HD300 effectively wake both the HD300 and PC? Is there something I need to change in my power settings (running Windows 7 64)? (As a side note, the WOL works fine if the HD300 started in an OFF mode while the PC is asleep. Turning on the HD300 in this instance wakes the PC and things startup fine) |

So if the Sage server goes to sleep with the HD300 "on", things don't play nicely? I read another thread on here that eluded to this fact.
If it's true that a sleeping server causes problems with HD300's, I'm surprised nobody's chimed in. Or maybe I'm the only one with this problem. FWIW, I modified my Power settings on the PC to sleep after 2 hours of inactivity rather than the 30 minutes it was previously set to. Unfortunately, this is probably still an issue the first time the TV is turned on in the day. |

I've seen similar behaviour with HD200 - I had a HW problem with my server which caused it to completely lock up. It would drop off the network but the HD200 would just freeze the last thing it was doing. Unlike the PC client I have which would report that the connection to the server had been lost (Which gave you a clue what might be going on)

I can't disagree that it makes sense, since the PC is the source that's gone to sleep. All I'm saying is that the HD300 is completely frozen showing the last picture that was in the screen saver. The only option is a power cycle.
Doing the power cycle, it sit's on the "attempting to wake the server" forever (okay.... more like 10 seconds), and then does the "auto-connect" routine. I figured, the extender should at least know who it was last connected to, and if connection is lost, pressing any button should have been enough to try to wake things up. At first, I thought I had an issue with waking my server once it had gone asleep with the HD300 powered on. But it turns out I just needed more patience. It's just not an elegant solution, with low WAF. I guess I shouldn't be terribly surprised, as after all, SageTV is all about an HTPC solution, so if I put my HTPC to sleep, I should expect some delays on power up. Moral of the story..... if you're going to have an HTPC solution, expect to leave your PC on for whenever your viewing habits dictate. |

You can set this option in the Sage.properties file:
extender_power_keeps_server_out_of_standby=true To prevent the server from going to sleep when an extender is connected. Not quite what you are looking for, but might be of some use. |

Okay - that might be of help. Then we'd just have to turn off the extender when finished watching TV for the night, otherwise the server would stay up all night unnecessarily.
Thanks for commenting. |

I run into a similar problem, if that for any reason the sage tv service is stopped (reboot or whatever) while an HD300 is turned on, it hard freezes and requires a power cycle to start working right again.
Not a big issue in my case though since the server does not sleep and knowing that this happens I turn everything off before I reboot or stop the service, but it would still be nice if the clients would simply detect the loss of service and automatically power off (or drop to the standalone mode) |

Sorry for the thread hijack here, but I've looked and looked in the menus and guide. How do I set up my HD300 to send the WOL packet? I've stored an IP address for my SageTV server, but it only works to wake the server when it feels like it. My wife's not happy running down to the basement to wake the server so she can watch TV.

WOL should be sent automatically when you turn the extender on.
