copied v6 properties file when I upgraded to v7
I went ahead and built a new server, installed win7, and at the sametime I upgraded to sageTV v7. When I did so, I actually copied over my v6 wiz.bin and my properties file. So... i changed a lot of variables all at once.
I copied the properties file over as I just assumed that was where my channel lineups and other painful things to recreate resided. I think that was a false assumption. Now I am reading posts that say to only copy over the wiz.bin file and by copying over the v6 properties file, you may create issues. It was true that I never hardly had to go through the initial setup wizard and everything was just about right the first time I fired it up. For the most part, my upgrade went fairly smoothly. I do see the spinning circle of though much more often than with my old setup. Occasionally, I do get crashes due to playback errors that I never used to see, but with all the hardware changes I did, I can't blame it on the properties file. So, my question is if we know there is an incompatibility issue with the v6 properties file. If there is, what would be the easiest way for me to purge that file and start over? If I just delete the file, will the setup wizard kick in and create a v7 one? I probably backed up the original v7 one (if it was created) before copying over the v6. -R |

There is a high chance of problems, however, when you copy any properties file to a different PC, which is what you said you did. There is a sticky in this forum that talks about moving SageTV to a new PC. You should remove that properties file and its .autobackup, then reconfigure SageTV. - Andy

Thanks Andy. I didn't see that sticky the first time, but found it now.
I went ahead this weekend and erased all the properties files and restarted SageTV. It kicked me into the wizard and I went through and set up everything again. I think maybe there is a problem with Zap2It right now that prevented me from finishing the setup. I could select my source, DirectTV for EPG and give it the city, but it would just sit there at "please wait as guide updates" and never complete. I let it sit for a full hour and tried a few times (with some smaller OTA guides) and never got any to complete. Put back my old properties files which had the sources already setup, but can't get the guide to update. I keep forcing EPG updates, but my guide has gone to 80% "no data" anyway. Hopefully Zap2It is just having trouble and I can try again in a day or two? I am missing recordings now waiting for it to update and get current.

If it is a new server make sure you have the firewall ports open for Sage including the one for the EPG.

It is a new server, but it has been functioning just fine for the past few months and getting the guide, so I have to think the right ports are open. I just decided to build a new properties file because I didn't do that correctly the first time, but I don't seem to be able to get the EPG to update now... quite strange. I will verify the ports tonight, but I can't see how that would suddenly change...
UPDATE: This is all quite strange. I tried to make a rule to open up port 7760 for the EPG, and when that seemingly failed, I just turned off the windows firewall altogether. I am not running any other firewalls. This is my first Windows 7 machine, so maybe I am doing something stupid, but it seemed to be working fine for the past few months. No clue what is going on. I pick the tuner and input, select the US / Canada option for EPG, give it the zip code and then select DirectTV. Then it just sits there at "please wait while the channel lineup is downloaded for " and never seems to do anything. I have left it there for a full hour before finally giving up, but not sure what else to try. The WAF is handling it ok, but the 2 year old keeps giving me the "daddy fix" grief and is a bit relentless. Any suggestions? UPDATE 2: I am not quite sure why, but it is all going again. I did the above, and finally got sick of it just hanging there. Went back in the setup and told it that I didn't want to add anymore sources and got the main program working again. From the main program, I went in and added the sources and the EPG lineups worked immediately. Instead of just hanging there, it asked me if I had basic or extended service, and then started downloading the guide. I don't understand, but I am working again...
