New Hitachi CinemaStar Drives - 5K2000 and C5K750

You know you are a geek when you get excited about new hard-drives for your HTPC.

Hitachi CinemaStar 5K2000 and C5K750 Hard Drives Released [CES 2011]

Hitachi has released two new drive families to address the DVR, IPTV STB, video surveillance and emerging hard drive-embedded TV markets. The 3.5" CinemaStar 5K2000 comes in 2TB and 1.5TB capacities, and the 2.5" CinemaStar C5K750 family with 750GB, 640GB and 500GB capacities. Both families boast low power consumption, quiet operation and special tuning for their use in audio/video equipment.

CinemaStar C5K750

The C5K750 drives are intended for use in DVRs and embedded TV solutions. The Advanced Format 2.5" drives are 375GB per platter and support multi-tuner HD streaming requirements. The drives draw 0.5W at idle, 1.5W power during read/write operations, and emit only 2.2 bels at idle.

CinemaStar 5K2000

The 3.5" 5K2000 comes in capacities up to 2TB, with 667GB platters, which is a significant upgrade over the current 5K1000, which tops out at 1TB. The drives are quiet, 2.4 bels during operation and draw 4.2W during idle.

Availability

The CinemaStar 5K2000 and C5K750 families are now shipping to systems designers and OEMs now.

Pretty exciting, I have seen some pretty good deals for Hitachi drives in the past hopefully these will follow suite too!

Well you know they'll be charging a premium for these. I'm wondering what price point they'll come in at. I would consider using these.

If the price was right I would jump on these. Sounds just right for SageTV use..

I agree, I am hoping they aren't super expensive.. It's exactly what I am looking for. Large storage, quiet, and a low power footprint to boot!
