Just wanted to chime in, UPS just delivered my Colossus. Now to install it. I had a pretty high order number - 63094 but I also live pretty close to Hauppauge so I guess all of you will be getting yours soon.

I have not seen one either, although I did get an email back from Hauppauge last wee saying they were shipping it that day.

I'm not recording from a BD player. Apologies if I used the wrong terminology. Rather, I'm recording directly from the component outputs on my Dish Network set top box. All of that said, and in the many months of fooling around with this on the HDPVR, and having changed the SPDIF cable, I will have to admit that I never changed the component video cables (as they were a pain to reroute). I am trying to change them now, and I'll update if that makes a difference (in which case, I'll be eating a large quantity of humble pie along with that).

I did not get ANY email tracking information before I received mine on Friday. It just showed up at the door via UPS. So I wouldn't use that as an indicator of if it is on its way or not.

Try using the cables that came with the HD PVR/Colossus

bummer................i opened the box and started to peruse the quick installation guide when i got a shock (not sure if anyone mentioned this before or not, but if they did, i missed it)

under 'connecting to cable tv or sat set top box' there is the following:

Note: component video is limited to the 1080i. You may need to set the video output of your cable TV or sat box to 1080i.

this is not something i was prepared to do, as i don't want 720p unnecessarily converted to 1080i, nor do i want the lousy STB scaling of SD material to HD.
i currently record with hdpvr in whatever mode the source comes in, set my hd300 to pass through the native resolution, and feed a video processor that is much more sophisticated than the MOT stb that fios provides.

if this limitation is not removed in a future firmware release, i'd be inclined to
return the unit (was this limitation mentioned previously by hauppauge?)

on the bright side, i found this limitation before wasting time with installation, setup, cabling changes, etc

this is depressing.............bah

edit: just checked hauppauge site and they say it records up to 1080i, not ONLY 1080i

That just means it won't accept 1080p as in input.

Yes i think it is just poorly worded saying no 1080i

from the support website

"Recording format:
up to 1080i from component video (YCrCb or YPrPb)
NTSC: 720p60, 1080i60, 480i60, 480p60
PAL: 720p50, 1080i50, 576p50, 576i50, 480p50, 480i50
Note: the video input format determines the recorded format. For example, 1080i input records at 1080i, 720P records at 720P, etc. Any other format conversions needs to be done with the MediaConvert program (supplied)."

nope..........it says explicitly that you may need to set the stb output to 1080i.

maybe the quick installation guide is incorrect and needs to be updated as this is inconsistent
with the other information quoted above.

by the way, you can download the quick installation guide from hauppauge web site..........the quick
installation guide is inconsistent and since they explicitly say it records SD and 720p on the web site,
i'll assume the quick installation guide is just wrong..........

629- something. Mine came today too. No tracking email.

But boy am I bummed. As I discovered before in my only available PCIe slot it interferes with my memory sticks. I had plan to do away with one and run single channel, BUT even with the interfering stick removed it still doesn't fit because the capacitor in the lower right corner of the board hits the catch on the empty memory slot. Looks like my one year old MB I got as a band aid will need replacing anyway...

ok, now I am confused: my STB outputs whatever the channel selected is running, from 480 up to 1080. The HD PVR records "source" video, whatever it is.
How would this be different - will the Collosus NOT record in anything but 1080i?

I'm sure it can record anything UP to 1080i (I wouldn't be surprised if it also would work with 1080p, but component, technically, doesn't have the bandwidth for it, even though most agree it works just fine).

hi SHS.

can you confirm the quick installation guide is incorrect and that the web page description which states the colossus as capable of recording in 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i is correct?

thanks

I'm looking at the quick install guide now and it clearly says "Video is supplied to Colossus through Component or HDMI at up to 1080i". "Limited to 1080i" means 1080i is the upper limit; it does not mean it won't accept anything else. When it says you may have to set your STB to 1080i, that doesn't mean you must set it to 1080i. My satellite STB has separate checkboxes for each resolution, so all I need to do it make sure the 1080p box is unchecked (which it is anyway for component output). Chances are that's all you'll need to do too.
