What happens if you use the DTV remote to change the channel? You should see the channel change. If not, you have other issues. Remember that the HD-PVR only displays what comes out of the DTV box, it doesn't control or change anything.

You mentioned that you have only COM2 & 3. You also say that they're at non standard addresses and you are using some kind of channel changing program you wrote. I would change the COM ports to standard addresses and get rid of the channel change program before continuing.

I didn't have to do anything other than, update the firmware on the cable, plug it into the DTV box, push the red reset button and change the change mode to fast.

I had to copy the .dll file to the common directory as well as enable "fast" mode in the advanced/customize configuration. Both fixes are mentioned in this thread.
